Dad Finds A Kitten Frozen Solid In The Snow And Rushes Straight For The Fireplace

A helpless baby of any kind can soften the hardest heart.

Seeing a baby in trouble is especially distressing. No matter what it takes, we will do our very best to keep it safe, happy and healthy.

The Bingham family of Garden City, Utah experienced this feeling when they stepped outside one morning to find a foot of snow on the ground.

The kids were very excited about the snow, of course, and ran from the house expecting a snowy day of fun.

But then they noticed something in the snow that changed their lives forever!

On top of a drift of snow, there was a tiny baby kitten…and the poor tiny thing was frozen almost solid.

It showed no signs of life at all, except for a faint heartbeat. It was weak but it was there.

And that heartbeat was all it took to send the kids into rescue mode!

The kids called for their mom and Uncle Branden who immediately ran outside to help.

But when the two adults saw the little guy, they didn’t think he stood much of a chance. The night had been bitter cold, and the kitten’s body was already stiff.

The kids were very worried about the poor kitten, but the adults knew they couldn’t make false promises about whether it would make it or not.

They just told them they were going to try very, very hard to save the tiny tyke’s life.

And they did exactly that: first step was to get the kitten inside and out of the harsh winter elements.

Once inside, Branden headed straight for the fireplace, knowing the warmth it provided was the kitten’s only shot at survival.

At that point, Branden smartly handed the kitten over to his brother Justin, who luckily had had several veterinarian classes and knew just what to do.

He held the motionless kitten as near as was comfortable to the glowing embers of the fire.

Then he lightly administered chest compressions with his thumb (small animal CPR).

The family was all breathless, waiting to see if the kitten would begin to move and breathe.

But…nothing.

Justin turned it over onto its back and continued the gentle chest compressions for almost an hour, while holding it near the warmth of the fire. Again, though, still nothing.

The kids’ mom then wrapped the baby in warm towels and held him close to her body as she gently rubbed the kitten’s head and whispered calming words.

Eventually, the kitten was no longer cold to the touch and had relaxed. There was still no movement but the heartbeat was stronger.

So, they prepared a box filled with towels and snuggled the kitten deep into them.

Mom sat nearby, keeping an eye on the little furry body nestled in the towels, still hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

Another hour went by and nothing. Then…a miracle happened.

The kitten opened its eyes and sat up!

Since the cat had appeared to be brought back from death, they decided his name should be Lazarus.

Luckily, one of the family’s cousins wanted to adopt Lazarus, so the rescue family knew they’d be able to see him often.

It didn’t take long for Lazarus to bounce back from his near-death experience and start to grow.

Soon he was a beautiful cat that showed no signs of his rocky start!

Thanks to the family’s dedication when they found this helpless baby, Lazarus has a chance to enjoy a beautiful, long and happy life.

Most days he just spends curled up beside one human or another in his family. He’s content so long as someone is nearby.

Looking at him now, it’s hard to imagine he’s the same little frozen stiff kitten the kids found in the snowbank.

This is one rescue story for the books! 😀
