It was just sitting there: a little blue pet house in the middle of the park.

Being the founder of the animal rescue organization The Abandoned Ones (TAO), Judy Obregon had seen such sad sights many times before.

In Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth, Texas, it was a very common occurrence:

People would just leave their pets in the park and disappear; it happened so often, in fact, that Obregon started daily walks to find abandoned animals.

And here was a pet house, though there didn’t appear to be any activity inside…

Even so, Obregon knew she had to check, because there could be an abandoned creature in desperate need of help.

At the same time, it was a wooded area and it was very possible that a wild animal was waiting for her in there…

Maybe an angry raccoon!

Well, this determined rescuer just had to find out.

She cautiously pulled back the flap and gasped: there were two scared eyes peeking out from behind a pillow!

It was a tiny little dog, and the poor thing was absolutely terrified.

The blankets were cold and there was no food or water in sight, either, so Obregon quickly extricated the little pup and brought her to a nearby vet.

That’s where she learned the puppy was only about 10 months old, and also suffered from Demodex mange.

Thankfully, however, it didn’t take long for the doctors to fix her up and after her recovery, Obregon knew what name to give her:

She named the little pup Najila (or Jila for short), which is Arabic for “eyes that glisten.”

What a perfect name!

Jila spent her convalescence at Obregon’s home for a while, and then they found a perfect foster home for the adorable dog.

Obregon will be sorry to see Jila go, of course, but she’ll never forget those two scared eyes…

It’s why she does what she does; she wants to help and heal, and we need more kind-hearted souls like her!

And soon, it’ll be back to the park to see how many more innocent strays she can save!

A starving young dog desperately needed help.

She was relying on the kindness of strangers in Redlands, California after being dumped in a dry riverbed. If it weren’t for those strangers, she wouldn’t survive.

Kind-hearted people would give her food occasionally but it wasn’t enough, unfortunately.

The pup was losing weight and before long, she was skin-and-bones. So, a Good Samaritan posted a plea for help on Facebook and got the attention of a local dog rescue.

That’s when Faith Easdale, a volunteer with Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue, decided she had to act.

Faith finally found the suffering pup and immediately took her home; as she told The Dodo:

“I … put her in a crate. I got her into air-conditioning and took her home.

She just wanted to snuggle in as close as possible for human contact. It was just so heartbreaking to see that.”

But the next morning, Faith noticed something she’d missed during the emotion of the rescue:

The pup’s nipples were very pronounced. It meant she must’ve recently given birth!

But Faith hadn’t seen any puppies when she’d rescued the poor pup, so she’d need help finding those babies … if they were even still alive.

Faith took the mama dog back to where she’d found her, got her on a long leash, and the pooch immediately started pulling Faith along!

Faith saw they were headed to a dense thicket and for a moment, she wondered if the animal had stashed something else in a hiding place … toys? Food?

Just week-old babies, and if Faith hadn’t noticed the mama dog’s nipples, those puppies wouldn’t be alive today!

The diligent rescuer scooped up all the pups and later, both Mama and her babies were transferred to Lovebugs Rescue, where it will take some time for the malnourished mother to recover.

But once she and her pups are completely healthy, they’ll be available for adoption.

And Faith thinks no dogs deserve it more:

When volunteers at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas opened its doors after Memorial Day, they were met with a shock.

Sitting in an abandoned crate was a very scared little poodle, who obviously hadn’t been shaved in quite some time.

The matted pooch was only about a year old and was in desperate need of assistance, so the rescuers immediately moved to help.

That’s when they noticed the poor pup came with a heartbreaking note:

“Can you please take care of my dog … he’s a great puppy I just couldn’t afford to keep him …

His name is Lee … he will listen, he will bark, and will not bite, please don’t put him down.

I love him, but I can’t afford to keep him … I haven’t shaved him yet I apologize, but please care for him and find him a home … thanks.”

It’s sad that the owner couldn’t care for Lee, and it’s sadder still that the dog had to sit, terrified and filthy, in a crate … imagine what she must’ve been thinking!

Kerry McKeel, the shelter’s media specialist, told The Dodo that Lee wasn’t in good condition at all:

“Lee was matted and covered in urine when he arrived.

He was very unsure and nervous.”

The note was left by someone who wasn’t cold-hearted or evil, but it was obvious that Lee hadn’t had the best home life.

But the shelter wants everyone to know that while financial difficulties are often a concern, the shelter workers welcome questions, and are ready to help.

As they wrote on Facebook:

“We certainly understand financial hardship, but if there is some small way that we can help keep pets with their people, we want to do that.

Before making that decision to give up a pet, talk to us about your circumstance to determine if we can link you with a resource.”

Thankfully, Lee got a much-needed shave soon after coming inside, and what emerged was a smiley, wonderfully happy pup!

“Lee is an affectionate, very smart and spunky pup,” McKeel said.

“He knows how to sit and play fetch. He certainly went from bow to wow.”

There are already two families interested in adopting Lee, too, so it won’t be long before this adorable poodle will be in a warm, loving home.

If only all abandoned animals had such bright futures ahead of them!

Abandoned animals don’t deserve their horrid fates.

It’s not their fault that they’re homeless; it’s not their fault that nobody wanted them.

And yet, they suffer terribly, especially when they’re so very young and helpless. Just ask Snowflake, an adorable shar pei mix, who was found living behind a dumpster in Bakersfield, California.

The poor little thing was only five weeks old and the person who found her … well, that individual obviously had no affinity for animals.

The person tried to sell Snowflake online for $10!

That didn’t work out, however, so this callous individual decided to simply leave Snowflake on a neighbor’s doorstep.

So, there the poor pooch was, soaked to the skin and frightened to death, wondering what new nightmares awaited her. It was just such an awful way to start a life!

However, at perhaps Snowflake’s lowest moment, the door behind her opened…

And the homeowner quickly knelt and scooped up the scared pup; he then went inside and called Amanda Brooks, adoption coordinator for Marley’s Mutts.

She ran right over and checked out the little tyke; Snowflake wasn’t in good condition, unfortunately. She was malnourished and dehydrated, and her body temperature was much too low.

The next step was to bring her over to Andrea Bertolucci, a veterinary advisor for Marley’s Mutts. That’s when Snowflake finally got the treatment she needed, and rapidly began to improve.

It was the first time this adorable furry baby felt love and respect in this world!

And now, thanks to a homeowner who wasn’t about to ignore her, and the good people at Marley’s Mutts, she has a chance at a bright future.

Snowflake is already doing much better and living in a foster home, with a new canine friend named Massie. Massie is like a mother to Snowflake, and the two are just inseparable!

The puppy who once knew only fear and coldness is having a great time, and she’ll be ready for adoption in less than a month.

Here’s hoping her life just keeps getting better and better from here on out!

Penny was only about 18 months old and living in squalor in an old trash pile.

She was starving and on the brink of death; someone had abandoned her and Penny quite literally had nothing.

Worse still, where she had been dumped was not directly on the main road, so her hopes of being found were slim.

Then one day, she heard a sound…

Two men were travelling by when their car suddenly broke down near Penny’s awful trash heap.

The men spotted the trash dump and then, they did a double-take: something had moved in the midst of that trash!

And there was little Penny, frightened, emaciated and very sick.

It was a definite blessing, as RSPCA inspector Rebecca Benson said:

“She wasn’t visible from the road and I hate to think what could have happened to her if they hadn’t broken down in the area and stumbled across her.

“She must have had a guardian angel looking out for her today.”

The Good Samaritans tried to get Penny to stand but she couldn’t because she was so sick.

So, knowing the poor pup needed immediate medical attention, the two men rushed her to the vet.

And when the vet saw Penny, he just couldn’t believe how much she had suffered!

She was so emaciated and dehydrated that she had to be kept on a drip the entire weekend.

But thankfully, Penny slowly gathered strength and was able to stand and and even go for short walks.

Months later, Penny is unrecognizable!

She’s a beautiful, happy dog, and even better, she has found her forever home!

This is exactly the sort of story that will brighten your day and it makes you wonder:

If God hadn’t stepped in and caused that car to break down, where would Penny be today…?

When it comes to unwanted pets, there’s a right way…and a wrong way.

If you find yourself in a position where you can no longer care for an animal, the right thing to do is attempt to find it a good home.

You can ask friends and family members or put a notice online or in the paper, and if all that fails, you can find a reputable shelter.

But here’s what you DON’T do:

On Tuesday morning, the day after Christmas, Santa Fe animal services were called to a local Dunkin’ Donuts, where witnesses had spotted an abandoned dog.

It seems a man had driven into the parking lot with the dog, and the dog had gotten out with him. The man went inside, got a coffee, came out, and…

Drove away, leaving his poor pet standing, alone and frightened, in the parking lot!

Surveillance footage was unable to capture the man’s license plate number but it clearly got his face when he was inside, so the police are asking for the public’s help.

And when they found the abandoned pooch, they spotted a heartbreaking note pinned to her collar:

“I’m free. I’m having babies.“

So that’s it. She got pregnant, he decided he didn’t want the responsibility, so he dumped her in a parking lot with a note. Real classy.

The note may as well have said, “I’m too lazy and irresponsible to be a pet owner, so I’m getting rid of this dog.” What a jerk!

But the good news is the dog in question is in the care of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Human Society, and she’s doing well. Said PR officer Murad Kirdar:

“She is social and loves people. I was actually hanging out with her today.

We still do not know if she is pregnant — too early to tell. [But] the safety of the dog was not the person’s main concern.“

The shelter added on their Facebook page:

“Unfortunately, stories like this are all too common.

But, it’s people like you that care and truly make a difference in the life of these animals.“

Here’s hoping she finds a new home with new owners, who are loving and caring. She absolutely deserves it after being abandoned!

And again, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do things. Yes, there are times when people simply can’t properly care for an animal, so they have to make a change.

But you certainly don’t dump the poor thing in a parking lot with a pathetic note!

Here’s a cruel fact of life:

Dogs suffer every day in all parts of the world.

They’re homeless, cold, starving, suffering from a myriad of diseases and other ailments, and they have little hope of survival.

So when Judy Obregon, a dedicated animal lover who runs a rescue organization called The Abandoned Ones (TAO), saw a puppy crying by the side of the road, she knew she had to do something.

http://addictingstories.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/CallieReactsVid.mp4

The dog looked young and she was crying pitifully.

Sadly, Judy finds all too many abandoned dogs dead but this pup, despite being obviously injured, was very much alive.

She stopped the car and at first, she didn’t notice what was around the dog’s neck…it was a string that had kept the 6-month-old puppy tied to the fence.

And maybe the poor thing was limping because she’d hurt herself trying to break free.

And as she observed:

“The saddest part is that even when she broke free of the string, she still stayed in the same spot as if waiting for the people who left here there.“

Judy brought the dog, who she named Callie, to the vet.

Amazingly, despite the limp, Callie was quite healthy and she still had her appetite. She’s going to be fine, thanks to Judy.

“Dogs like this make me cry all the time.

They are just so forgiving. I can see it in her eyes.”

Forgiving, yes, but Callie obviously needed a loving home and hopefully, that’s exactly what she’s going to get.

http://addictingstories.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/CallieReactsVid2.mp4

She currently lives with a foster family but she’s in good spirits and one day, a very lucky owner will bring Callie to her new forever home!

Added Judy:

“She’s coming around to the point that she doesn’t give a damn about what happened to her before. Her past is behind her.”

Just beautiful.

Dogs in pain sometimes act irrationally.

The pain they’re experiencing is not something they can easily relay to humans trying to help them.

Physical injuries might be easier to recognize, but some dogs suffer – like humans – emotional injuries they just can’t express.

Mary Murphy had to set aside her frustrations trying to help a dog whose madding howls erupted from a shopping center parking lot in Memphis, Tennessee.

Reports show the dog had been in the parking lot for nine days, howling and begging for scraps of food.

Any attempts to approach the dog sent it bolting for cover. Yet, it continued to return and howl, as if it was in desperate need of help.

Murphy was patient, and decided on a somewhat odd course of rescue:

She parked herself in a lawn chair with a book and her own dog in the middle of the parking lot.

Then the waiting game was on…

Murphy had to exercise great patience, because it took 3 ½ days for the pained pooch to approach her.

But in the end, she finally gained the dog’s trust.

Murphy took the dog to Arrow Dog Rescue to be examined, and the veterinarian gave the dog a strong bill of health.

After days outside with little food and water, the howling pooch was deemed in surprisingly good physical condition.

Everyone involved came to the same conclusion – the howling dog was in pain because someone drove her to the parking lot, dumped her and drove away.

She was alone, suffering and had no one to trust.

Arrow Dog Rescue posted to social media the story of Murphy and the howling dog.

Response was overwhelming with many offers to take the dog right away.

Staff decided the best path for the dog was a foster family short term and research any potential forever families to ensure a good fit.

It didn’t take long for everyone to realize the howling dog was a great pet.

Just a few weeks after foraging alone in a parking lot, the dog had a new family and a new name – Crooner.

Crooner is a great example of how dogs, or any pets, need proper care, patience and understanding.

THANK YOU MARY! What a perfect example of someone giving their time to help an animal in need.
