The child’s belly just didn’t look right and began to swell, and her skin had the frightening appearance of jaundice.

The troubled parents would wind up at Boston Children’s at Waltham hospital, and they would soon receive some absolutely terrifying news…

And it’s exactly the sort of news all parents dread.

Sloan was in stage four liver failure due to a rare disease, and she would need a donor within two weeks just to survive.

Sarah notes that the couple was crippled with “gut-wrenching fear and terror,” but they immediately put the wheels in motion to desperately search for a donor.

Unfortunately, all the usual avenues produced dead ends, which led the couple to put up a last-second plea on social media. 

Lt. Steven Tenney, a New Hampshire police officer and distant acquaintance of the family, just so happened to see the plea, and he knew exactly what he had to do.

He decided he was going to donate his healthy liver and save the little girl’s life!

Tests confirmed that he was indeed a match, too, and he would enter the hospital to have a fifth of his liver removed. Talk about brave!

Little Sloan would go into surgery soon thereafter and after eight grueling hours, Sloan’s relieved parents learned the transplant was a success.

The family unsurprisingly views Tenney as a hero but you know, he really doesn’t see it that way at all.

“Something you have to do as a human being,” he simply said.

Steven would meet Sloan for the very first time about two weeks later, and it’s quite clear that the pair has an indelible bond.

Fast forward to today, and Sloan is nine-months-old and doing just fine, thanks to her officer savior.

None of that would be possible without Tenney’s selfless act, and the St. James family is forever grateful to the officer angel who saved their baby girl’s life.

This is one instance where the police officer saved a person’s life without ever drawing his weapon…instead, he just used his very big heart!
