They don’t know it but at the very last moment, when it seems all hope is lost, that animal’s angel arrives out of nowhere … and saves its life.

That’s exactly what happened with Tiny, an adorable little chihuahua that was probably only minutes away from freezing to death.

He was abandoned in a dark, dirty towel in a park in London, and temperatures were falling fast. This is where Tiny needed a miracle!

Unbelievably enough, a Good Samaritan spotted the towel because it actually appeared to be moving…

And on closer inspection, out popped Tiny, shivering and terrified!

The kind-hearted person knew the pup didn’t have much time, so this compassionate individual rushed him to Mayhew, a local animal shelter.

Said Mayhew animal welfare officer AJ Ford:

“Poor Tiny was wrapped up in a towel and looked terrified. He was seen by our experienced vet team straight away.”

Tiny needed all the help he could get, too! The poor pup had both worms and fleas in addition to borderline hypothermia, so the vets set right to work.

But as the minutes ticked away and Tiny began to recover, the staff breathed a sigh of relief: despite some hydration issues, it seemed Tiny was out of the woods!

Said Mayhew veterinarian Emily Richardson:

“When Tiny first arrived he was dehydrated and very nervous.

We monitored him throughout the night, but thankfully he had no health problems that were of concern.”

But wait, the story gets even better…

One of Mayhew’s staff members – the receptionist, Melissa – fell in love with Tiny. She absolutely couldn’t let him go, and decided she just had to adopt him.

“Tiny is such a gorgeous boy and I fell in love with him instantly.

What he may lack in size, he certainly makes up for in character and has had us all laughing with his antics from the moment we brought him home.”

Melissa added that Tiny “adores cuddles and loves nothing more than curling up with you for a snooze.”

That makes sense, considering the little pup is probably soaking up all the love and attention he can get!

And all because of the nameless angel who found him, shivering to death in a towel. Such angels really do exist!

When Dobby first joined the family as a puppy three years ago, everyone loved her. And for good reason; she was such a likable and friendly dog.

But when they took her to the vet for a simple examination, they were devastated to learn poor Dobby had Parvo.

It’s a very contagious and aggressive virus that is unfortunately common in dogs that come from puppy mills and pet stores. But the family wasn’t about to give up on Dobby.

A best friend knows all the bad stuff about you and still loves you anyway.

They can make long days seem shorter, heavy loads seem lighter and can make you smile when you thought you’d never smile again.

It’s not just humans that have their BFFs either. When the going gets tough, everyone realizes you need a friend to help get you through.

When Golden Retriever Forsberg (is that not the coolest name ever?) met the cat his parents had brought home, he wasn’t too sure about it.

But then something beautiful happened.

Forsberg learned that cats weren’t the monsters he’d imagined. And Ginger decided that Forsberg wasn’t all bad, either.

So, Forsberg the Golden and Ginger, the orange tabby cat, ignored the stories and became best friends!

For the next eight years, they were inseparable. Where you saw one, you saw the other. They ate together, they patrolled the house together and they slept together.

As the years passed, both of them entered “seniorhood.” A lot of their playing and patrolling was replaced with just a lot of snuggling on the couch together.

Unfortunately, years are a lot harder on dogs and cats than they are on humans.

After eight years of having Ginger beside him 24 hours a day and tragically, Forsberg awakened to an empty couch one morning.

Ginger had succumbed to thyroid cancer. She had lived 15 wonderful years, but, it wasn’t nearly enough.

Forsberg immediately began to grieve, just as anyone would do if they suddenly lost their best friend.

Every day he roamed the house searching for Ginger. But, she wasn’t there.

He grew more and more depressed, and his family began to worry about him. His health was starting to be affected by his grief.

So, they did the only thing they could think of that might snap Forsberg out of his doldrums.

They adopted a new cat!

They didn’t try to replace Ginger; they knew that nothing or no one ever could.

The little long-haired black kitty they brought home resembled Ginger in only one way:

She fell in love with Forsberg almost immediately! And, the family noted that thankfully, it was mutual.

Before long, Forsberg was back to patrolling the house, this time with a little black shadow by his side.

And when it was time for a nap, the new kitten named Maxwell curled up almost exactly the way Ginger had always done beside him.

It’s been two years since the little black kitty came to Forsberg’s life and in the end, we learn once again that best friends come in all shapes and sizes. And species!

You never know who it might be; all you know is your package is gone, and there’s little chance you’ll see it again.

Then you have to go through the frustrating and tedious process of trying to explain what happened to the sender, and if you paid for it, you can try getting your money back.

No matter what, though, it’s an outrageously irksome thing to happen, right?

Well, Kristin Beck caught a package thief in the act…but instead of calling the police, she whipped out her camera and snapped a few incriminating photos!

See, she’d been waiting on a a delivery for a few days and in fact, the package wasn’t for her. It was for her cats.

She’d bought them a couple banana-shaped catnip toys she thought they’d really enjoy. But that dirty little thief was about to make off with the loot!

It was the neighborhood cat, who had climbed up onto the porch – no doubt smelling the catnip – and ripped into the package! Said Kristin:

“Out of the corner of my eye I could see the package being ripped at by the cat.

The culprit was on my front porch with one of the bananas already out of the package, and he was going to town on the Amazon bag.

I was the victim of an attempted cat burglar.“

Once the thief realized he’d been caught, he scurried away, leaving the catnip toys behind. Oh, too bad, foiled at the last second!

What was even funnier was one of Kristin’s own kitties, who was seriously miffed at seeing another cat horning in on his territory.

They keep everything they know is deadly to dogs far out of their reach.

Many dogs would prefer to eat what their humans eat, of course; hamburgers, hot dogs, steaks and potatoes.

Some dogs even love green salad stuff.

But, if you do your research, you know even things that are considered healthy for us humans can kill a dog pretty quickly. Especially small dogs.

You have to keep a running list in your head of all the do’s and don’ts of allowing your pet to eat human foods.

Bananas and strawberries get the green light. Avocados, grapes, and raisins get a brilliant flashing red light.

Unfortunately, most foods don’t come with any warning labels telling you how very dangerous they can be for your dog. You have to do the research!

But even if we know something is bad for our dogs, that doesn’t mean that they won’t still try to eat them.

The smell of chocolate can drive a dog nuts (the same as it does for me!) yet even a small bit of chocolate can kill a dog.

Peanut butter is another common human food that can be toxic to dogs. Some brands contain xylitol, a chemical sweetener…and therein lay the demise of one poor pup named Luna.

A very sad family learned the hard way that xylitol can find its way into almost anything these days:

They left their golden retriever, Luna, alone in their house while they were running errands.

This was something they had done since she was a puppy, never with any ill effects.

They thought they had their house dog-proofed, with anything dangerous well out of her reach.

And Luna was a good dog; she rarely went about eating everything in sight.

But still, being a typical dog, Luna got hungry, so she wandered around their home looking for something to eat.

Tragically, those hunger pains ended up literally being the death of Miss Luna.

She happened up on a container of Ice Breakers lemon-flavored chewing gum and this was very bad news indeed.

While eating regular gum isn’t usually fatal for dogs, this sugar-free type contained xylitol.

Luna’s family had no idea that their pooch had gotten into the pack of Ice Breakers gum—nor did they know what would happen to her after eating it.

But, after munching on only a couple pieces, she became very sick.

By the time her family returned home, she was obviously in great distress.

Different dogs show different symptoms, but there was no way anyone could miss seeing how very sick she was.

They raced her to an emergency vet; as soon as the vet heard what she had eaten, he checked out the ingredients label.

When they saw the word xylitol, their hearts sank. They knew the news they were going to have to give the frantic family would break their heart.

Xylitol causes liver damage, and it is irreversible. There was no way that even the most heroic measures could save Luna’s life.

Sadly, the death from xylitol can take a long time and is very painful, so they would have to tell Luna’s family the worst possible news:

They were going to have to make the decision to humanely euthanize their dear sweet friend.

More and more cases around the country are popping up; dogs that owners thought were in a dog-proofed environment finding even very small amounts of xylitol and dying.

Please do your part and forward this story to your social media groups!

Tell your friends to be sure their pet can’t find anything with xylitol in it: Peanut butter, chewing gum, sugar-free candies…it can be hidden in almost anything.

Condolences to Luna’s family for their great loss. May it make their sorrow a little less, knowing that Luna didn’t die in vain.

Indeed, her story may save countless lives by warning other pet owners!

Worse, not having a regular source for meals and water can be deadly.

Humans can seek out shelters but animals don’t have that option. They are either in a shelter, or they are on the streets…there is no in between.

And in many places, there simply isn’t room at the available shelters for any more animals, no matter how sad their plight.

One Korean woman knew how difficult it was for a feral cat to survive, and also realized the impossibility of finding space in a shelter, much less a permanent home.

So, for 5 years, this kind-hearted animal lover made it her business to distribute food to all of the feral cats that lived in her neighborhood.

She bonded with many of them, but one definitely stood out from the pack for an exceptional reason:

The funny thing about this cat, the thing that made her stand out from the rest of the crowd, was that she never actually ate anything.

When presented with a bowl of fresh dry food, she would sniff it, then turn away.

The other stray cats ate in a frenzy but and as soon as she saw that all of the food was gone, the little yellow cat would turn and walk away.

The woman was puzzled. Perhaps there was something about the bowl that the little cat didn’t like?

She tried a variety of different plates and bowls, but the cat that she had named Dongsuk still turned up her nose at the food.

Worried that Dongsuk wasn’t getting the nutrition she needed to stay strong and healthy, the woman even brought along a special can of food to try to tempt her.

Still, the little cat refused to eat. As soon as everyone else was finished, she once again turned and walked away.

Then, one day the woman brought the food in a plastic bag. When the bag was almost empty, the cat reached up onto the table and took it into her mouth!

She trotted away quickly, as if she knew exactly where she was supposed to be, and she was late.

The woman pondered what had happened. The next day, she presented the little cat with another small plastic bag of food.

The cat promptly snagged it away from her and ran off in the same direction.

This became a routine for them. When she was preparing the food to take to the feeding spot, she always packed a small bag of extra food for Dongsuk.

And Dongsuk never failed to show up, take it, and run!

People talk about cats being curious, but the woman found that it was her curiosity that was piqued.

She couldn’t stop wondering where the cat was carrying her food before she ate it.

She was glad that Dongsuk now had access to proper nutrition, but why would she only take food that would be more difficult to access and eat?

Another volunteer suggested they follow the cat to see where she went.

They knew they would have to be very quiet and careful and not let her know they were watching, though.

As much as they wanted to know where she was going and why, they also didn’t want to scare her away from her only source of good nutrition.

The next day when the cat took her usual bag of food the woman and the other volunteer waited a moment, then carefully set out after her.

Then, a little farther on, the cat stopped at a door and seemed to be waiting. The women were baffled. What was going on?

Suddenly, as if she had received an invisible signal, the cat leaped up and in seconds was on the small rooftop above the door. Still, she didn’t drop the bag and eat.

Moments later, the women gasped as the answer to all their questions became apparent:

A ginger kitten came out of the shadows and walked towards the cat. Dongsuk was a mom!

She had been taking the food back to her home to feed her kitten!

Even though Dongsuk must have been near starving, especially after that long walk smelling the food through the plastic, she would not eat until her kitten had had its fill.

Then she finished off everything in the little baggie.

At that point, the two women realized that despite the odds against finding a shelter placement or home for another cat, they simply had to do something to help this dedicated mom and her baby.

They asked around in the neighborhood. The stories they heard had them almost in tears.

Yes, the neighbors knew of Dongsuk. She was a very nice cat. She had had five babies that she had tried hard to provide for, but all had died but one.

Their hearts cracked thinking of this plucky mom, obviously so smart as well as street savvy, doing the best she could and still having to watch her babies die one by one.

Then they pledged to find her and her last remaining baby a safe place to live.

They knew they could do nothing overnight, so their plans to begin with were small.

They began putting a bit more food in the little baggie for Dongsuk to be sure that both cats were getting enough nutrition.

They put an old quilt in place so the mom and baby would have a warm place to sleep, too.

Eventually, the day came when it was time to catch the two and take them to a safe haven.

Dongsuk had warmed up to the women once she realized they were not there to hurt them.

Her kitten took a little longer; after all, she had lived her entire life fearful of humans, which is what had saved her life.

As wonderful as it was going to be once they were safe, the women knew that the capture was going to be traumatic for both cats.

But they had to press on.

Armed with a net and a blanket lined cage, the women got ready to save the cats from their life on the street.

The cats didn’t much like the net coming down around them, but they seemed to understand that it was for their own good.

They didn’t struggle much and went into the cage without too much trauma.

That wasn’t the end of their story either. Now they have their very own little house as they wait for their permanent home to appear!

Their food comes to them every day, in nice clean bowls.

They have clean water and warm fluffy blankets to snuggle into while they wait for someone to take them to a home.

Will that kindly someone be you…? Even if you can’t, you have to appreciate this amazing story!

A lot of people don’t take that responsibility seriously and their pets suffer for it.

Others do the very best they can do, and are horrified when things out of their control put their pets in danger.

Jane Morris of DeLand, Florida knows what it’s like to watch in horror as something terrible happens to a beloved pet.

One day she saw her cat Reese acting strangely in the yard…she watched for a moment, then ran to her when Reese suddenly collapsed.

She was horrified to see something sticking out of her cat’s side!

When she got closer she could see that it was the arrow from a crossbow.

“I saw the arrow sticking out and I rushed over to her.”

It was horrible; the arrow had entered near her chest and pushed all the way out near her tail.

Morris raced her cat to the vet where Reese immediately went in for emergency surgery. Would Jane be in time to save Reese’s life…?

Well, Reese did indeed surprise everyone, even the surgeon, when she managed to survive!

The arrow missed any vital organs, the only reason Reese lived long enough to get to a vet, but the weapon still did a lot of damage.

She still cannot use one leg, although she is improving daily, and sadly, there is still a chance the leg will have to be amputated.

The event almost broke Morris’s heart thinking of the pain her pet was enduring. But, even more than the horror was the concern about the safety of her neighborhood.

If this could happen to Reese, who’s to say it wouldn’t happen to anyone else?

Morris said, “the kids play in these woods and it’s really scary to know that there’s someone out there who would do this to an animal.”

Morris  submitted a report to the local animal control in hopes of finding the perpetrator. She also kept the arrow as evidence.

She has also offered a $200 reward for information about the perpetrator. But until then, we can all only hope the shooter doesn’t strike again.

It’s always wise to keep your pets indoors unless they are being supervised or are in an enclosed area (sadly, difficult to do for a cat).

Morris will likely be keeping a lot closer eye on Reese in the future for sure!

And hopefully they will find the owner of the crossbow and he will be brought to justice. Even if it was an accident, someone still needs to pay the piper!
