When Kaylyn Marie got locked out of her house one day, she knew her dog Sam would be worried. But she didn’t really believe he could help.

The problem was a little more complicated than one might initially believe:

Kaylyn had been swimming in her backyard pool and her pup was inside, waiting for her to finish (all dogs wait for their beloved owners!).

But when Kaylyn got out, she realized the piece of wood that blocks the sliding door had fallen back into place. She couldn’t get in!

It wasn’t that the door was locked; the piece of wood just wouldn’t allow the door to move.

Sam noticed Kaylyn’s distress, however, and jumped to help!

Kaylyn pointed to the piece of wood and Sam immediately went to work …but could he really manage it? As Kaylyn told The Dodo:

“I was able to get him to start pawing at the door. I honestly didn’t think he’d be able to do it.“

And at first, the enthusiastic pooch couldn’t quite get the piece of wood free. He pawed at it for a bit, but then turned around, as if he was giving up.

However, he returned quickly for another attempt and this time, he maneuvered the stick free and snagged it with his teeth!

Seconds later, Kaylyn was inside and very proud of her smart dog.

They’ll twist their ankle playing, fall off of a trampoline, and sometimes just trip over their own feet.

But most kids aren’t as smart as this brilliant pup because he knew just what to do when he hurt his eye while out playing.

The Golden Retriever wandered away from his owners and somehow hurt his little eye.

He didn’t panic because he thought about what his owners would do if they were there: they would take him to the vet for treatment.

And that’s just where he headed!

The veterinarian reported to a TV station in Thailand that the pup didn’t just show up at the door and sit there.

He knew help was inside, so he kept pawing at the door at the Petto Street clinic in Lam Lukka, Pathum Thani until he got their attention.

The veterinarian at the clinic, Siramanee Wongpitayadisai, cleaned his wounded eye and put a ‘cone of shame’ on him to stop him from pawing at his injury.

Knowing that the pup was obviously well-trained, there was no way he was a stray, so they took to Facebook to try to find his owner.

It spread far and wide and was even picked up by the local TV station. Amazingly enough, it worked; the smart pooch was reunited with his owner!

And that owner must be happy to know that his pet is so capable of taking care of himself…even though I’m sure hopes his furry companion is more careful from now on.

Guard dogs.

These animals are willing to put their lives on the line for their masters.

We’ll sometimes find them reclining innocently behind a Beware of the Dog sign, just waiting for their next victim…er, visitor.

A guard dog is usually very well-trained and regimented to do that one job and do it well.

But did you know some breeds are predisposed to be protective of their humans and property, and they do so without any special training whatsoever?

Like this dog in China who puts a new spin on the title “guard dog.” 

When his owner left him outside while he ducked into a shop, the dog jumped at the opportunity to prove his mettle.

He went to his person’s bike, sat beside it, then put his paws purposefully on the seat.

At first, people were a little confused…what exactly was this pup doing?

Then they realized he was protecting his master’s property, and doing so with great care and vigilance!

No one could question whether the bike had an owner. And no one would dare touch it while it was so well guarded.

And this loyal pooch didn’t just assume the position for a moment or two; he continued to sit there long enough that he attracted quite a crowd of admirers.

This was definitely his 15 minutes of fame as he sat there patiently while cameras snapped and video recorders hummed.

Someone likened the loyal dog to one of the concrete gargoyles that overlooked the street:

He sat there, still as stone, waiting for his owner’s return. He obviously took his job very seriously!

He kept an eye on passersby, but didn’t waver in his duty.

Only when our bike guard’s owner returned did the loyal canine take his paws off the bike. He greeted his owner warmly with tail wagging and whole body vibrating.

He was obviously waiting for his praise for having managed to thwart any would-be bike thieves with his advanced guarding methods.

Despite his clever guarding skill and celebratory dance moves upon being reunited with his owner, there was still more to come…

When the man mounted the bike and began to pedal away, the faithful pup wasn’t about to slack off; he was still every inch the protective friend.

What a very cool dog, and what a lucky guy to have a best friend like him around!

For instance, cooler weather may give owners the idea they can leave a dog in a parked car.

But fairer weather or not, dogs don’t like being left alone.

And some of the more intelligent (and spirited!) pups will make their owners pay for the slight every chance they get!

One pooch decided he’d been left alone in the car one too many times, so he immediately took matters into his own hands.

His only goal – publicly shame his owner.

Obviously, this very smart canine paid close attention every time his owner laid into the car horn to get someone’s attention.

And now it was time to draw everyone’s attention to him, sitting in command in the car driver’s seat!

One stiff paw and this dog blared the car horn for all to hear, and wasn’t gonna stop until everyone noticed, especially his owner.

A stunned passerby caught the hilarious incident on video at Vancouver Island’s Beban Park on November 19, and the video has since gone crazy viral.

The person recording the video can be heard pleading with the dog to stop the ongoing racket, but nope, this pooch wasn’t listening.

His pleas were met with a steely stare that wasn’t budging.

Take that, fair weather owner!
