“Why can’t we all get along?”

Well, unfortunately, the world today is still having a problem “getting along.” And it seems to be getting worse instead of any better.

The world could definitely learn a lesson from a monkey in Rode, India who did something absolutely incredible…even animal lovers can scarcely believe it!

When this monkey saw a baby puppy that had been abandoned on the streets of Rode, he immediately took it under his wing (ok, arm).

He found the puppy food, shelter and provided him with everything he needed to stay alive and healthy.

They have become quite the attraction as they travel about, the puppy clutched firmly against the big monkey’s heart.

Obviously, they have a great affection for each other, even though the two species usually would avoid each other.

People of the area have become so attached to the odd couple that they have taken to putting out food for them, to be sure they can stay healthy.

When the monkey finds the food, like any good dad, he waits until the puppy has had its fill before he begins to eat.  It’s so adorable!

They walk about, the puppy dangling from the monkey’s strong arm.

It looks a bit uncomfortable but when they stop for a break, the puppy stays nearby.

It obviously knows that the monkey is his savior and he feels no need to try to escape its “clutches.”

No, these are loving embraces, not clutches!

Monkeys and humans are quite a lot alike, of course.

That includes a sense of family, the need to nurture and to love their young for life, so this puppy is in great hands! Or rather, great arms!

Wherever they go, they attract large crowds of people. At first, everyone is horrified that the monkey is “stealing” someone’s puppy.

Then a local will explain that they are in fact an odd little family, and then cameras come out and photos are shared again around the world.

Life isn’t easy on the street, even when you have a friend. But, at least the puppy doesn’t have to worry about other dogs as predators.

His amazingly protective  monkey friend is brave enough to drive away even the meanest canine attacker:

The monkey always knows what’s best for his little buddy, too. For example:

When the sun starts going down, it’s time to go to bed.

Giving a whole new meaning to the term “bird dog,” this little puppy is taken up into the treetops to keep him safe from things that go bump in the night.

And willingly he goes, knowing he’s safer up there than anywhere else on the ground!

People who have watched the baby puppy growing up under the care of his monkey guardian say that it is thriving.

The monkey cleaned him up, took care of the mites and fleas that infested it, and has found him more than enough food to keep him growing.

That’s what any good parent would do, right?

What a lucky little puppy to have found such a wonderful and caring adoptive parent!

Looking at them, Rodney King’s words echo in my heart.

Indeed, if different species of animals can care for each other so lovingly, “why can’t we all get along?”
