They were doing just that on the roads around Little Rock, Arkansas when something peculiar caught their eye.

Bret and Zach caught sight of a pet crate that looked completely out of place in the brush on the side of the road.

So, they decided to pull over and check it out – and it’s a very good thing that they did!

As soon as they got over to the crate, they saw holes and markings that indicated two possibilities:

First, either some big predator had tried to get in…or a terrified, desperate animal had tried to get out!

To get to the bottom of the mystery, the father-son team cautiously opened the door.

And there was a petrified and abandoned pooch, who had obviously been left to starve by the side of the road.

Without giving it another thought, they sped back to the house to grab some dog food, and they quickly returned in their car.

Once the dog, who they would name Charlie Bravo, or CB for short, had its fill, they scooped her up and brought her home.

But they needed some funds if they were to take CB to the vet for an all-too-necessary checkup.

Before they knew it, however, they were overwhelmed with donations from folks who wanted to help pay the bill!

People had heard about the homeless pup’s terrible experience online and had quickly leapt to help.

Amazingly, the father and son ended up with more than enough for CB, and they proceeded to donate the excess funds to a local animal shelter.

Now THAT’S what animal lovers do!

Bret would go on to adopt CB, and she seems to be right at home with folks that love and care for her. As it should be!

And after the ordeal was over, CB turned out to be an incredibly loving pup in spite of her traumatic experience.

This dog rebounded quickly, but only thanks to the quick thinking of some kindly Good Samaritans.

Hats off to Bret and Zach for going above and beyond to change a needy pups life!

They suffer through bruises, cuts, and broken bones, but worse still, they suffer the lack of love.

Just look into the eyes of a poor abused animal and there you will see fear, distrust, betrayal, anger, and a myriad of other negative emotions.

Oh yes, animals feel all those emotions, especially dogs.

Eldad Hager, founder of Hope for Paws, knows this better than anyone. Every day, he sees the pain, both mental and physical, inflicted on these innocent animals.

And though every rescued pup is a feather in his cap, seeing an abused pooch never gets any easier.

Case in point:

One day, Eldad and his team got a call about an injured dog; apparently, the poor thing was cowering in an alley somewhere.

So the rescuers arrived on the scene, and that’s where they found the animal; it was a lonely, petrified pit bull, crouching in the bushes.

Eldad and his crew knew the dog was scared so they approached cautiously. Thankfully, the dog didn’t resist…she even let Eldad pet her.

Maybe that was the moment she knew that everything was going to be all right.

But Eldad was horrified to see the pup’s face up close; it was clear she’d been abused somehow. Perhaps her owners had hit her repeatedly, or had her fight with other animals.

It was just terrible to see her in that condition!

The team rushed her back to Hope for Paws HQ and quickly gave her the medical attention she required. They named her Cadence, too.

After plenty of treatment and love – which she’d obviously never had much of – Cadence began to come around. She knew her life of misery was over.

Dr. Christin Fahrer performed the necessary eye surgery to save her vision as well, so finally everything was starting to go this dog’s way!

Now Cadence is happy and healthy and living with a loving foster parent, where she gets precisely what she needs: Warmth, respect, and affection.

Life can be awfully cruel. This poor thing should never have had to suffer through such a nightmare.

But now it’s over, thanks to Eldad and his team, and we know they’ll keep fighting for every abused and abandoned animal out there!

Some shelters charge to take in animals and instead of being responsible, people just go to a rural area and dump them by the roadside.

They usually argue that this way the animal “has a chance.” That if they took it to the shelter it might be euthanized.

The truth is that dumping your pet on a roadside is never an adequate solution to the problem of an unwanted animal.

Yes, in a shelter, it may be humanely euthanized if it’s not adopted.

But, on the street, it will almost definitely die. And certainly not in a humane fashion.

A Dallas-area man recently caught the attention of animal lovers (and was eventually charged with animal cruelty) after surveillance cameras caught him doing something truly despicable:

He yanked a young dog from his car and abandoned it in a notorious dumping spot in the city.

According to local TV station WFAA, Gorge Spears, 62, of nearby Balch Springs, was seen leaving the dog near the intersection of Dowdy Ferry and Teagarden roads, which runs through a remote part of Dallas.

According to the SPCA of Texas, it was the first time the cameras — installed by the local marshal’s office — recorded an incident of animal cruelty.

In the video, Spears is seen getting out of an Infiniti sedan, roughly dragging the one-year-old mixed breed female out of the car by its leash, and pulling it to the side of the road.

Thankfully, the dog, still on its leash, was found the next day.

Dallas Animal Services took her in on Aug. 6. The SPCA of Texas took custody of the dog on Aug. 22 and she was adopted out on Sept. 9, the station reported.

After spending her life on a chain in someone’s backyard, and then being dumped roughly on an isolated road, this charming pup, now named KD, is happily ensconced in a wonderful new home!

Her new parents love her to pieces, and she loves them back just as much.

She even got to pick out some wonderful new toys that she is enjoying playing with, and she’s loving all the love and cuddles from her new family!

She has traveled to so many new places and has even made lots of new doggy friends.

She was once unwanted and neglected, but now she never has to worry about being abandoned ever again.

Can you imagine just driving away and leaving any animal on the side of the road? Much less one as adorable as KD?

We think whatever the punishment is for this action, it isn’t tough enough!

Spears defends his actions though. He says the dog was owned by his sister; she is a diabetic and the dog would scratch her “when she would go out to feed it.”

One day the dog “tangled her up in its chain” and scared her.

He says he “didn’t want his sister to have to suffer anymore” so he told her he would “get rid of” the dog.

Instead of taking the dog to a shelter though, where it might have a chance at being adopted, he decided it would have a better chance being abandoned on a back road.

Wrong. And now that he knows it’s wrong and will be punished for it, hopefully he’ll never EVER do it again!
