The words have been in the headlines a lot recently with the flooding, storms, and fires endangering the lives of so many around the US this past year.

Sometimes animals need rescuing simply because they’ve gotten themselves into a predicament and need someone with opposable thumbs to get them out of it.

Animal rescue meant something very different to a tiny month-old human baby that was abandoned by his mother somewhere on the streets of Argentina.

It was a bitter-cold night and he didn’t have much of a chance of survival.

That is until someone came to his rescue. And his rescuer came in a form you might never expect!

This time it wasn’t a human that was rescuing an animal from an uncertain fate, but an animal that was actually doing the rescuing.

Proving that maternal instincts definitely cross a species barrier, a stray dog named Way saved the baby’s life that cold winter night.

Way had given birth herself recently. When she was out foraging for food to keep up her strength to keep her babies fed she happened to hear the cries of the abandoned child.

Her maternal instincts, already in full swing, kicked into full gear and she went into savior mode. She brought her puppies to the child, then curled her body around all of them and kept them warm and well fed through the night.

In the morning light, local resident Alejandra Griffa heard the baby’s cries and searched until she found the nest the mother dog had made for her human and canine babies. Griffa immediately rushed the baby to the hospital.

Despite the bitter cold of the night, the baby suffered no ill effects. His 33-year-old mother was detained by authorities.

We hope that with the newfound fame brought about by the discovery of her generous and compassionate action the dog described in Argentinian media reports as being “just a dog” has found a home with someone who will realize what a treasure they have.

She definitely deserves the label of “someone’s pet.”

We also hope her puppies fared as well as the human child, who reports say is thriving.

All young children and even some older ones are prone to throw temper tantrums from time to time.

Most tantrums are fairly predictable.

The young one does not get what he wants, protests, and then the tantrum starts as they realize that mom is not giving in.

Most children will lie on the ground, cry, yell and pretty much do anything they can to irritate or embarrass you.

Animal children are no different as you will see in this adorable video. The baby elephant seen here is not getting what he wants.

He throws a tantrum right in the middle of the road. And what does his mom do?

The baby elephant apparently protesting his mother’s demands, plops himself down in the grass along the side of the road.

An adult elephant passes him by ignoring this behavior.

So, what does the baby do? What all children do when plan A doesn’t work. Plan B. The baby elephant throws himself into the middle of the road and starts an all out tantrum with his little legs flailing.

Another elephant soon passes by, presumably his mother.

She notices his behavior but refuses to reinforce it in any way. She calmly walks right past him.

Realizing that his antics are not yielding the desired response from this mom, the baby elephant gives up and quickly catches up to the grown ups.

Watch and see for yourself. If you are a parent, you will easily relate and applaud this elephant mama.

Mothers seem to always know when something is wrong, and they react quickly.

For one mom on a farm in, life didn’t begin well for her newborn.

A mare named Boneca was pregnant and grazing in a pasture awaiting the birth of her foal.

Nothing was out of the ordinary – yet…

Before long, her owners noticed she was looking much thinner and realized she must have given birth the night before.

But where was the foal?

Before they knew it, Boneca was running around frantic with no foal in sight anywhere.

She couldn’t be calmed, and her owners began searching.

What they found was shocking!

Boneca had given birth, but the foal had indeed vanish from sight.

The farmers heard cries from the newborn. The cries were coming from underground!

It was trapped below ground.

Farmers started digging around the opening, careful not to injure the foal with the shovels.

Their efforts quickly freed the foal. He was not harmed, and Boneca was elated to have him back on solid ground and safe by her side.

After a little nourishment from mom, the two were free once again to roam the pasture.

Hopefully the farmers took care of that ant den and any others that might swallow the foal or injure any farm animal running through the pasture.

But her version is just a little bit special =)

The way she exaggerates the hand motions and makes those facial expressions makes me lose it every time. She goes on the most hilarious rant and it’s just about the cutest thing ever.
