After all, veterinarians are supposed to help every animal in need, and this was one desperate pup!

His rescuer found the homeless pooch in deplorable condition:

The scared pup was obviously malnourished and had terribly infected ears and in fact, he hardly looked like a dog anymore. He had almost no hair left at all!

But Andrea, the young woman who found Benji, wasn’t about to give up on him. She raced him to the vet with high hopes…

The vet told her Benji suffered from sarcoptic mange around the ears and it was clear the shivering pup was absolutely miserable.

So, what was the treatment the vet offered?

No treatment at all. In fact, he told Andrea she should put Benji down!

And it was all because the pup had been through so much, and his condition was so poor. But isn’t this when vets are supposed to earn their money?

Well, Andrea just couldn’t bear to hear these horrible words from the doctor, so she scooped up Benji and raced out of the doctor’s office.

She was going to take it upon herself to make sure the damaged, frightened dog had a better shot at life!

Andrea cared for Benji day and night, administering necessary antibiotic injections, bathing him constantly to help his skin and fur, and even using coconut oil to help with the infection.

It took a while and at times, it was touch and go…

But Andrea persevered and Benji became one of the most lovable, sociable pooches ever!

These days, Benji’s tail wags even while he’s asleep, and it’s all because he has a warm, loving home and an owner who refused to give up on him.

That’s what it takes sometimes: absolute dedication and a desire to do the right thing.

We wonder why the vet simply decided it would be too much work to help poor Benji, but it’s great to know that people like Andrea exist!

Isabel was used to finding malnourished strays, of course, but Susanna had much bigger problems.

For instance, she was covered in fleas and ticks, and clearly had given up hope on life. She could barely blink at Isabel!

Then the heartbroken rescuer realized the the desperate pup couldn’t walk … she couldn’t even raise her head.

Why?

Well, sadly, it appeared Susanna had suffered some sort of paralysis, and Isabel knew she needed immediate medical help.

She raced to call the Gulfstream Guardian Angels Rottweiler Rescue, who quickly agreed to take the damaged dog into their care.

And it’s a very good thing Isabel had come along when she did, because as it turns out, Susanna was indeed paralyzed.

The problem was that nobody knew how she had sustained the injury, and doctors wondered if the poor pooch would ever walk again.

It really was a heartbreaking situation; there were physical deformities in her legs as well, and vets think it’s because Susanna had been “stuffed into a crate since puppyhood.”

Then, after she’d done her job – likely give birth to a litter of puppies for a breeder – she’d been dumped in an alley to die.

But this dog was a fighter! As Laurie Kardon, a board member at Gulfstream Guardian Angels told The Dodo:

“The first time I saw her, she lifted up her head and licked my face.

I said, ‘There it is. This girl wants to live. We were going to do everything in our power to get her going again.’”

And so they did.

The rescue team got Susanna on a huge recovery plan; they got her quality food and started to help her rebuild her strength.

Susanna got a chance to use a swimming pool, too, which gave her a chance to “frequently stretch and walk around.” Things were going extremely well!

The brave and increasingly happy pooch continued to improve, and Kardon can’t wait for the day when Susanna is finally ready for adoption.

That will be the sweetest day of all! And what an incredible turnaround in this dog’s life!

But then there are times when rescuers find animals in rather curious situations, ones that definitely require some sort of explanation.

For example, when the Scottish SPCA came upon poor Kai abandoned at a train station, tied to a suitcase, they knew there had to be a story behind it.

Kai was in decent health but was in desperate need of an eye operation, and he appeared to be lonely and scared.

So what was he doing there? Why had someone left him at the rail station with a suitcase? What was in that suitcase?

Well, when the team opened it, they got a clue:

As it turned out, the bag was full of Kai’s belongings; inside they found a pillow, a toy, a bowl, and some food. But of course, the poor pup couldn’t open the suitcase himself.

What had happened?

Well, the rescuers just assumed his previous owner had left the dog there, hoping someone would see him and adopt him. That might explain the suitcase.

But the rest of the story was a puzzling mystery…

Until after a few months passed and the SPCA finally tracked down the person who had left Kai at the station.

As it turns out, the dog had been advertised for sale online. When she arrived, however, she saw that Kai was a different dog than the one she’d seen in pictures on the internet.

She says the seller then sped off in his car before she could ask any questions, and she panicked and jumped on the last train home.

She adds that she did nothing wrong in leaving Kai behind but even so, it was a tough break for the lonely pooch. Thankfully, the SPCA didn’t have to work too hard to find Kai a new home.

This story got so much attention that literally hundreds of potential owners came forward, hoping to adopt the dog!

Then they finally chose one lucky man, and there’s no doubt he and Kai will be best friends for life.

The world is a very lonely place when you’re homeless and afraid.

You hope someone will notice your plight. You hope someone will have a kind word and maybe a morsel of something to eat.

But sadly, most people just ignore you.

Buzu was a poor stray pooch on the cold streets of Romania and all he wanted was to get the attention of pedestrians.

He obviously wasn’t scared of humans but sadly, most passerby are too busy – or too apprehensive – about going near a stray dog.

Buzu lived in a makeshift cardboard house and spent his days begging for food or a bit of affection.

The only good in Buzu’s life was that makeshift shelter; someone had given him that box, along with a cushion and a bowl of water.

But one day, that all vanished and the distressed pooch was left with nothing!

So, he tried even harder to make friends with anyone who came along, especially those with dogs of their own.

Buzu would follow quietly to see if the owner might have a little something for him, and his ears would perk up whenever he heard a shout or raised voice.

Was someone calling him? No. Sometimes he’d stretch out in the middle of the road, hoping someone would give him a belly rub…but no.

Still nothing. He’d follow people around, quietly and despondently, and nobody ever did anything to help.

Finally, a rescue worker from an organization called Howl of a Dog heard about Buzu. She was the first to follow HIM.

And when she did, she realized everything the abandoned pup had gone through:

His pitiful home had been taken away or destroyed, everyone avoided him because he was dirty and possibly had bugs or diseases, and he was horribly depressed.

She gave Buzu some biscuits and the attention the dog so longed for, and quickly brought him back to the shelter.

The team discovered that Buzu was covered in fleas and also had a minor skin problem due to being on the streets for so long (some of his fur was gone).

But at long last, after enough TLC, the real Buzu sprang forward!

He was a beautiful, happy, energetic pooch. He was the dog he wanted to show everyone on the streets, but nobody would respond when he tried.

Well, now everyone knows. And Buzu just needs his forever home…does any dog deserve it more?
