She’d seen this so many times before: an owner moves away and leaves the pet behind.

But when she looked closer, she instantly knew why the family had ditched this particular pup … and then her heart just broke.

Tania Cappelluti loves animals, which is why she teamed up with Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue in Costa Rica.

She has helped dozens of animals find their forever homes but when she saw that poor abandoned pup, she was especially emotional.

“This is so unbelievable,” she wrote on Facebook on August 16.

“I really don’t understand how people can do this to their dog.“

About a week ago, a redheaded woman wearing an eyepatch dropped off her dog at a pet resort in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

She wasn’t a common customer … in fact, nobody at the business had ever seen her before.

And what was with the eyepatch?

Anyway, the woman told the employee behind the desk that her name was Melanie Winchester, and her bulldogs name was William Katz.

Then she abruptly left.

A little while later, the groomers realized that William the bulldog really wasn’t in good condition…

He needed medical attention immediately, in fact!

The poor pooch’s skin was covered in sores and he also suffered from several nasty ear infections.

So, they tried to contact the owner but realized she’d left a fake name and a fake number!

Well, at that point, the unfortunate circumstance had become clear:

The woman had ditched the poor dog at the groomer’s! She never intended to come back!

Furthermore, it was clear she didn’t treat the dog properly, either.

The staff quickly called the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, who in turn notified the police.

But with a fake name, the police don’t have much to go on besides the security camera footage.

They’re asking around to see if anyone has seen the woman but in the meantime, William is in good hands at the resort.

He’s getting the care and treatment he needs there, but can you imagine such a heartless owner?

Who could do such a thing?

Well, someone had indeed “lost” something … but it wasn’t just a purse!

When the passerby approached the purse, it suddenly started to move and twist about; it was if it had a mind of its own.

Obviously, something was alive inside and desperately trying to get out!

The resident quickly knelt down and unzipped the bag, and out popped a furry friend who was very thankful that someone had rescued her.

It was a kitten!

The poor thing had been stuffed into a bag and left to suffocate, which is beyond evil. Thankfully, though, the Good Samaritan had arrived just in time.

The next step involved getting the abandoned kitty some help, which in this case was the RSPCA.

And one of the inspectors, Annie Simmonds, just couldn’t believe the story she’d heard. Who could’ve done such a thing?

But then he heard a knock at his back door and when he got up to open it, he got a very big surprise:

He just caught sight of a small boy running away and there, sitting just outside his door, was a cardboard box with a handwritten note attached.

The box was also making sounds, and it was obvious something was inside and desperately trying to get out!

So, the janitor knelt down and read the note, which was quite heart-wrenching in and of itself:

“Sorry it didn’t have a home, and it was cold so were going to give it to you.

Please do let it go find it a new home. Thank you.”

What had the boy left in care of the janitor? And what if the poor animal inside wasn’t very happy about being locked up in a tight, dark little space?

Well, the noises coming from the box broke the ice; he just had to open it…

And there, sitting curled up inside a blanket, was a terrified little puppy!

The boy had even left a few slices of meat for the scared pooch, and he’d poked holes in the box so the poor thing could breathe. Pretty good thinking for such a young child!

But the janitor couldn’t care for the homeless pup, so he handed it over to one of the teachers; she was happy to take the puppy home, and she and her son named him Snowflake.

They really loved Snowflake! However, they couldn’t give the dog the permanent home he needed, so the teacher contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.

She hoped the organization would be able to find a loving, fur-ever home for little Snowflake. But even after all this, the tiny pup really loved her cardboard box and didn’t want to leave it!

Founder and Director of Detroit Pet Crew Dog Rescue Theresa Sumpter said:

“She really likes the box—I don’t know why.

“She likes to sit in the box, she likes to lie in the box, she likes her toys in the box.”

But little by little, Snowflake emerged from her cocoon and the team put her up for adoption … boy, they didn’t have long to wait, either!

It only took one day for someone to come forward and adopt the lovable pup!

Finally, Snowflake has her permanent home and though she had to bounce around a bit, she should lead a very happy and carefree life.

And all thanks to a little boy who, though he couldn’t care for the dog himself, knew he had to approach a grown-up if Snowflake was going to have a chance!
