Things seemed pretty normal … until she stumbled across 10 abandoned kittens huddled by the side of the road!

These poor little kitties were scared and starving, though they didn’t seem too frightened by Bree’s pet pup.

Bree just wasn’t sure what she should do for the kittens; she couldn’t very well take all 10 home, and she lived a mile away.

So, she thought she’d go home and call a rescue team. It was her best option.

But when she started off down the road again, all 10 baby cats started following her!

Bree kept looking behind her and there they were, following as quickly as they could … again, not even caring one fig about Bree’s dog!

Bree wasn’t too sure what the kittens wanted, though…

Perhaps they only wanted food or some company, but would ten kittens really follow someone for a mile down the road?

Maybe they wanted something more.

Bree was determined to find out, that’s for sure!

She let the kittens follow her and her dog, and when one of the baby cats fell behind, she picked him up and carried him.

Finally, the long mile was over and Bree was home … with a whole bevy of kittens on her heels!

And the instant all the kittens were inside the house, Bree realized that every last one of these poor orphans wanted one thing:

LOVE.

They didn’t follow this strange woman for a mile for only food or water. They didn’t do it because they were terrified.

They did it because they wanted to be loved! And the one person who was supposed to love them, ditched them instead.

And Bree was just so disgusted that someone would do such a thing:

“I was disgusted that someone had just dumped them.

If you can’t afford to desex your cat, or look after and find homes for kittens don’t own a cat.”

Well said!

And by the way, that one little kitten that couldn’t keep up with its brothers and sisters? The one Bree carried?

She ended up keeping that little guy!

And Bree will now see to it that the other nine kittens also find good homes, because that’s what kind-hearted humans do.

In the end, our four-legged friends just want to be loved … if they’re following you, you can bet that’s what they want!

But Bandit was nowhere to be found.

The days turned into weeks, the weeks into months … finally, the devastated family had to accept that Bandit was gone.

But you never know when Fate might step in, and you should never bet against the survival instincts of a dog!

Two long years later, in March of 2018, a few pedestrians spotted a lone black dog wandering around in the woods, and someone called Nicole Asher of Buddha Dog Rescue and Recovery.

The only problem was that though this pup was wearing a collar, nobody could get close enough to read it.

Obviously, the first step was catching the elusive canine; this one had some obvious survival skills, and wasn’t about to be snared that easily!

So, Nicole and her team devised a plan: they would erect a very large trap and a surveillance camera to see if it worked.

Inside the trap, Nicole laid out toys, bones, and food and after tracking the dog’s movements, she decided on the perfect spot for the trap.

It was a fenced enclosure deep in the woods and though she’d made it as inviting as possible, Nicole still wasn’t certain that the dog would take the bait.

She and her team watched the cameras thanks to night vision and at first, the dog was “very skittish” and would run at the first sight of something new or foreign.

But as the days passed, the dog calmed down a bit, and Nicole watched as he started to put on quite the show for the camera!

“Watching his antics on video were a constant source of amusement.

He would chase the critters away from his enclosure, play with toys that we left for him and do his little playful dance in front of the enclosure.”

Finally, at long last, the slippery pup came into the enclosure completely. Success!

And unbelievably enough, when Nicole got a close look at dog’s collar, she realized it was the long-lost Bandit!

Unfortunately, Bandit’s family had since grown and could no longer care for him. They surrendered him to the rescue team immediately, hoping they could find a good home for him.

Bandit needs to recover a little from his two-year adventure, and he’s still not entirely comfortable around humans. But he’s getting there.

As Nicole finished:

“You can tell that he is a silly, lovable boy on the inside.

His story is amazing and I think he’s given a ton of people hope who have lost dogs out there.

They’re very resilient and smarter than we give them credit for.”

Dog lovers know this is true!

Nope.

Sitting there waiting for them was a surprise: an abandoned dog was tied up outside the door!

She looked a little tired and confused, as you might expect, and she obviously was hungry. Worse, rescuers didn’t get much help from whoever had left the poor pooch behind.

Said community relations manager Cassie Lackey:

“The minute they stepped toward her, it’s as if she was saying, ‘Oh my God, there’s people here! I’m good now.’

She was friendly and so sweet since the very beginning. She will give anyone kisses, whether they like it or not!”

The team named the adorable friendly dog Betsy, and they quickly got her checked out by a veterinarian.

As it turned out, Betsy was only 2 years old and had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. She also suffered from a bacterial skin infection.

But after giving her a much-needed bath, that “wriggling” was back in full force; Betsy was just so appreciative of the staff’s efforts!

At the same time, however, it is indeed a sad situation, as Lackey says:

She knew a cat caretaker that actually had two cats in need of homes, so Dasha and her mother paid a visit.

The girl took to the cuter of the two kittens but for some reason, her mother seemed to prefer the other one … the “less cute” one.

She was a little scraggly but Dasha agreed to take her home.

The family named the odd little kitten Simina, and they called her a “funny and disheveled tangle of energy.”

Simina was indeed a wonderful cat but when she started growing … well, she didn’t seem to be maturing into a beautiful normal house cat. No, something else was happening.

Simina started looking stranger than ever, and guests actually started asking if the cat came from Chernobyl (the site of the infamous nuclear plant meltdown in 1986).

Really, the kitty did look pretty terrible!

The fur had grown in very oddly; it bunched under her belly and there wasn’t much hair at all on the rest of her body.

Plus, she’d picked up a few bizarre habits the family couldn’t explain.

For example, Simina really loved ice cream! She didn’t even seem to care that she always got a stomachache when she ate it.

Furthermore, the oddball kitty took to Hematogen, a Russian candy bar for children. This was definitely not the behavior of a typical cat, right?

Then there came the kicker: the family realized Simina’s mood could change in an instant; one minute she’d be all cuddly and happy and the next, she’d lash out with her claws!

The whole family, especially Dasha, was mystified.

But you know what? They all settled on the fact that Simina, while definitely a little “off,” was still a fantastic pet and she deserved all the love in the world!

Just because she wasn’t a pristine show cat didn’t mean she wasn’t a wonderful companion. And Dasha learned a very important lesson for a teenage girl:

It doesn’t matter what you look like, only if you love others, and are loved in return!

You might have some bad days and you may not win any beauty contests, but you still deserve all the good things in life.

And Simina is one lucky cat!

Don’t you wish everyone could learn such great lessons at an early age?

The poor filthy pooch was limping along beside a busy interaction, and Liz was immediately worried that the injured dog might get hit by traffic.

Liz was quick to stop and scoop up the scared but gentle pooch; after getting her out of harm’s way, she promptly took her new charge home.

As you might expect, the first thing this rescuer did was give the hungry pup some food. She was obviously hungry!

But the dog seemed to be eating strangely … it just didn’t look natural or comfortable.

So, Liz knelt down and got the dog to open her mouth, and that’s when she was met with a shocking surprise…

As she wrote on Facebook:

“She was eating weird. I assumed she didn’t have any teeth.

Then she yawned. She didn’t have a tongue.”

The homeless pup didn’t have a tongue, and apparently hadn’t had one for a very long time!

Liz quickly contacted a local rescue group, Detroit Pit Crew, who agreed to take the stray in and see if they could help her out.

The vet couldn’t believe this amazing pup had managed to survive without a tongue, either, and Detroit Pit Crew founder and director Theresa Sumter added:

“I have seen a lot of very strange things, very sad things in Detroit with dogs, but I have never seen a dog without a tongue.”

But it certainly hasn’t stopped this brave pup from pushing forward!

Her pals at the shelter have given her the nickname Helen Keller, and appropriately so. The question is, will someone out there give Helen the fur-ever home she deserves?

She can’t do a lot of things – like lick herself – but she’s a perfectly sweet dog.

Nobody will ever know if she lost her tongue due to an injury of some kind, or if Helen was born without a tongue. But does it really matter?

She has amazingly survived this long … shouldn’t she finally receive the reward of a loving home?

It certainly looked like a dog but it was completely bald, and none of the shelter workers could nail down her breed.

Was it even a normal canine? It almost looked a little wild, as if it were a blend of domestic and wild animals…

Nobody at the shelter could solve the mystery, and that caused a big problem, because they didn’t quite know how to fix poor Blossom’s condition.

The baldness and bad skin could be caused by a serious case of mange, scabies, or allergies, but how to know exactly?

On top of which, the odd dog was also suffering from an upper respiratory infection and kennel cough. In this condition, nobody would take a chance on adopting her; there were too many unknowns.

But then Gretchen May saw Blossom’s photo online.

The property manager found one of those “things” when he went to check out the apartment after everyone had left.

It was a tiny terrified puppy, sitting under the dirty sink in the bathroom!

Then he got close and realized that the poor pup’s previous owners had done something absolutely terrible…

They’d not only left the frightened dog behind when they disappeared, they’d only given her a little bowl of food and a bit of water to survive on.

Worse still, they tied her to the pipe under the sink, which resulted in an awful neck injury!

The landlord knew he had to help the dog, whose name was Autumn. She was obviously petrified, malnourished, and the neck injury needed immediate treatment.

So, he quickly called Kate’s Rescue for Animals, and volunteers sped out to pick her up.

They carefully cut off her collar and after examining her injuries, they found it was worse than they thought:

Autumn was going to need surgery to close the open wound on her neck; if she didn’t get it ASAP, she wouldn’t survive.

They said Autumn might’ve been sitting there for well over a week, so the little pup was also emaciated and dehydrated. She also craved human contact, and for good reason.

“She is super sweet, and loves to be held, because she’s been neglected for so long,” Kim Dunn, a volunteer with Kate’s Rescue for Animals, told The Dodo.

The good news is that Autumn has managed to bounce back rather quickly, and despite a sudden fever that concerned vets for a while, she’s now resting comfortably.

She can’t yet be around other dogs during her recovery, but her ultra-sweet personality will always shine through!

And before long, she should be off to her fur-ever home, which will have owners that will never, ever leave her tied up to die in an empty bathroom.

No animal should suffer through such a horrifying experience!

Not only was he a long way down, stuck in a narrow pipe, but even if someone spotted him … how could they possibly get him out?

Well, amazingly enough, after four long days of suffering in the pipe, the kitten was indeed rescued.

And it was arguably the most epic rescue we’ve ever seen!

The kitten is soaked, freezing, starving, and obviously terrified. And there was no easy way to get to him.

The rescue team worked with Freedom Plumbing Inc. to come up with an ingenious method of freeing the tiny tyke, and it worked out beautifully.

It took a little time, of course, but they had to be sure the pipe wouldn’t break during the rescue attempt … if that happened, it’d be all over!

And once the baby cat was finally pulled free, Well Pets SC helped nurse him back to health.

Think about it: 120 hours in total darkness, unable to move, petrified and hopeless.

Somebody up there was obviously looking out for this furry angel!

Sitting in an abandoned crate was a very scared little poodle, who obviously hadn’t been shaved in quite some time.

The matted pooch was only about a year old and was in desperate need of assistance, so the rescuers immediately moved to help.

That’s when they noticed the poor pup came with a heartbreaking note:

“Can you please take care of my dog … he’s a great puppy I just couldn’t afford to keep him … 

His name is Lee … he will listen, he will bark, and will not bite, please don’t put him down.

I love him, but I can’t afford to keep him … I haven’t shaved him yet I apologize, but please care for him and find him a home … thanks.”

It’s sad that the owner couldn’t care for Lee, and it’s sadder still that the dog had to sit, terrified and filthy, in a crate … imagine what she must’ve been thinking!

Kerry McKeel, the shelter’s media specialist, told The Dodo that Lee wasn’t in good condition at all:

A dejected, soaking wet dog that obviously needed assistance.

Audra stopped the car and got out and when she approached the shivering pup, she noticed that something strange was tied around its neck…

She got a little closer and her heart just broke, because she couldn’t believe anyone would so something so heartless and vicious:

It was a makeshift anchor and given the fact that the dog was drenched, it was clear that some evil person had tried to drown the poor pooch!

They’d tossed the dog into the river with the anchor and sped off, and that’s just so horrifying, it’s difficult to even comprehend. As Audra’s daughter, Andra, said:

“Apparently, somebody put a heavy metal item on his neck and dropped him in the river to drown.

The dog was scared and shaking from cold as well.“

Thankfully, with the help of the kind-hearted Audra, the dog was able to survive his harrowing experience.

The vet confirmed that the lucky pup wasn’t seriously injured and the next step was clear to the outraged Audra:

She went straight to the police to report what had happened, in the hopes that the despicable person who tried to drown the pup will be brought to justice.

And as Andra said of her mother:

“I am very proud of her.

She loves animals and always takes care of them.”

It’s a darn good thing we’ve got people like Audra out there!

They’ll continue to fight for the safety and well-being of our furry friends, and that’s a blessing!
