Rescuers Have Just Seconds To Dig Out 10 Puppies From Beneath A Crumbling House!

When dogs are homeless, they hide in some very unusual places to try to escape the weather and other dangers.

When a homeless dog is about to give birth, they will try especially hard to find as safe a place as possible.

If you’re a dog, you think of houses as being places of safety; places where people care and someone might help…

But if the house you choose has been condemned, you may be putting your puppies in extreme danger.

That’s what happened to one mother dog in Michigan who chose the wrong porch under which to give birth to her babies.

A concerned neighbor in a Detroit community witnessed some very young puppies running in and out of a home and called the Michigan Humane Society.  The Humane Society arrived and found the puppies.

Besides finding the puppies though, the Society also found a crumbling house teetering above them!

It was literally about to fall in on top of them and temperatures were dropping quickly, meaning the house would be shifting. This made it even more dangerous.

The team knew they needed to move quickly, for their sake as well as the puppies’!

They didn’t have time to go back to the office to get the necessary tools for the rescue, though.

So, using their hands they began to try to clear debris and dig through the rubble to get a path so they could at least see the puppies.

Debris was falling almost as fast as they could pull it away and it was becoming a very dicey situation…

But, eventually, they got to the point that they could see the puppies blinking in the brightness of the unexpected light in the darkness of their burrow.

They were terrified, having never been close to humans in their life. They were trying to hide in every nook and cranny they could find.

The entire time the workers were frantically trying to dig out the puppies, their mother watched from a safe distance.

She seemed to understand that the people were trying to help her babies.

Finally, with the aid of strong lights and snare poles, the crew was able to see all of the puppies and pull them to safety. Scared, but safe!

They were taken immediately to the shelter to be checked out by a veterinarian and thankfully, the mother came along, too.

Anna Chrisman, the communications manager for the Michigan Humane Society, said:

“The biggest challenge with this rescue was the crumbling structure of the house – our team had to work for hours just to remove enough debris to gain access to the puppies.

The other big challenge is unpredictable Michigan weather.

Snow was predicted for that day, which would have greatly slowed the work down and possibly caused harm to the puppies and our crew.”
