Abandoned Pup Can’t Trust Humans, But Clever Rescuer Has A Trick Up Her Sleeve

Two dogs living in the woods didn’t trust humans.
And can you blame them?
A German shepherd, Iris, and a pit bull, Clover, stuck by each other. They were survivors.
Locals say the poor pups had been abandoned, and both had been living in a nearby forest for weeks.
And the problem was that nobody could get close enough to help, because the frightened dogs were simply too scared. They always ran away.
But one rescuer was determined to gain the trust of both pooches.
Judy Obregon is the founder of The Abandoned Ones (TAO), and she was convinced she could get Iris and Clover to trust her.
It was going to take time, patience, and skill, though. As Obregon wrote on Facebook:

“I said the same thing to her every day for her to know my voice and trust that one day her life would change.
It’s all so rewarding when we can change the fear they have into a smile.“
So, she kept saying, “your life will change” over and over, in varying patterns, every single day.
See? We told you she was determined! 😀
And at long last, the tactic started to work. Iris and Clover let Obregon got closer and closer as the days passed…
Then one day, Obregon and the rescue team were finally able to snag both pups, and they immediately sent them to fantastic foster homes.
Thanks to Obregon’s initial trust-building, the pooches are doing quite well in those homes, too.
Here’s the update for Iris:
“She enjoys being bathed, brushed, and even does little dances for you, says [her] foster mom.
Some would think, due to the fear she had, it would take months and months … This is proof that’s not the case with every stray.“
And Clover:
“Clover, too, has truly blossomed since his rescue, bonding closely with the other animals and kids at his foster home.
As much as Clover loves people, he is especially close with other dogs…
…perhaps his close friendship with Iris for those weeks in the woods had a lasting impression on him.“
He’ll definitely need another dog at home to bond with, and if he gets that, he’ll be a wonderful companion.
This is a very happy ending, of course, but you see just how diligent kind-hearted rescuers must be! 🙂
