It’s quiet at first, then it grows…

It’s an insistent meowing!

They open the door to find a skinny, apparently confused kitty. She really wants to come inside for some reason, too.

Well, at first they just assume she’s a common stray, and she’s looking for food.

After all, she was very thin and malnourished, so the family decided to give her some help. They give her a little cat food and send her on her way.

But then, a few days later … the meowing is back.

That’s when the family starts to think there’s something special about the house they just moved into. The cat just never wants to leave.

And that’s when it hits them:

The poor stray must’ve been left behind by the previous owners! This was her house!

But without the owners, she was like a sad ghost patrolling the empty grounds.

Well, the family was just heartbroken, and they called the RSPCA in the hopes that they could find the cat a good home.

The RSPCA agreed to take her in; the staff called her Honey, and then ran a few tests to determine the kitty’s health.

Unfortunately, Honey was suffering from hyperthyroidism, which explains why she looked so skinny. But beyond that, she wasn’t too bad off.

However, they just can’t seem to find someone to adopt her. It has been 200 days, and no takers!

Said Heather Cain, chairman for the RSPCA’s Stourbridge and District shelter:

“Honey has been in foster care now for over 200 days and has watched all our other cats go off to their new homes and start their new lives…

…she wonders why no one wants her and is now starting to become stressed and bored which is beginning to affect her mental and physical well-being.”

Oh, come on!

She loses her family, thinks she gets a new one with another family moves in, and now sits for 200 days, waiting for love…?

That just seems wrong!

Somebody must want this adorable 8-year-old cat. She’s described as being “incredibly sweet” and she loves playing with toys and getting people’s attention.

Added Cain:

“Honey has blossomed into a loving girl and, despite being slightly older, she still enjoys a little play now and again and is young at heart.

She just needs a family who will love her.”

Honey deserves a happy ending, wouldn’t you say?

…nobody expects it to turn into a harrowing adventure!

It began when Alex Maldonado’s father dropped the family’s adorable Maltese, named Nieves, off at PetSmart for the grooming appointment.

The staff fluffed her fur and trimmed her nails and a few hours later, dad returned to retrieve his beloved pet.

Simple, right?

Well, when dad returned home, his kids noticed something was definitely amiss … there was something off about Nieves.

The pup just didn’t seem right to them for some reason.

And that’s when the whole family realized with a tremendous shock:

This wasn’t Nieves!

As it turns out, the store had groomed two toy Maltese dogs that day, and dad had brought home the wrong pet pooch!

The father laughed it off on social media, as the adventure did come to a pleasant end, but everyone wanted to know:

How had his kids recognized the error?

At first, it was tough. Said Alex, one of the sons:

In fact, he thought it was a human at first!

That’s why he and his friend, who were out fishing on Lake Vygozero in northwestern Russia, sped directly toward the floating blob.

If it was a human, that person would be in dire need of assistance because the water temperature was frigid.

In fact, Lake Vygozero is infamous for having incredibly cold water; it can go down to 4 degrees below zero!

So, Ruslan and his fishing buddy headed toward the brown spot on the water, preparing for a rescue.

But when they got closer, they realized it wasn’t a human … whatever it was had fur.

And it was gigantic!

Then, when they brought up the binoculars, they saw that it was actually THREE brown blobs:

One was a mother brown bear and the other two were her struggling cubs!

That’s when the mama bear did something the fishermen couldn’t believe:

Instead of sticking with her cubs, she turned around and headed back to shore, leaving the two babies behind.

The cubs were having trouble staying afloat and they couldn’t keep up with their mother, who was obviously a stronger swimmer.

As they watched the mother swim away in consternation, the fishermen knew they had to help.

And even though the bears in trouble were just babies, they knew it would indeed be a little risky. But as Ruslan said:

“It was dangerous of course. But they are living creatures. We couldn’t just look the other way.”

They steered toward the drowning cubs and before they knew it, the first one tried climbing into the boat!

But he was too weak to make it, so the fishermen grabbed a net and scooped up the terrified animal.

The second cub was even more exhausted; it couldn’t even attempt to lift itself into the boat, so Ruslan and his friend did all the work for him.

Once they’d safely snagged both cubs, the fishermen headed directly to a nearby island…

The island the mama bear was waiting on!

Under the mother’s watchful eye, Ruslan and his friend unloaded their precious cargo on the beach, and then motored off.

After all, it’s not a good idea to be near cubs when when the mother bear is nearby!

And although it would forever remain a mystery as to why the mother bear had left the cubs in the lake, at least those two babies were safe.

All because two determined fishermen weren’t about to let them drown … no matter how big their claws were!

Things seemed pretty normal … until she stumbled across 10 abandoned kittens huddled by the side of the road!

These poor little kitties were scared and starving, though they didn’t seem too frightened by Bree’s pet pup.

Bree just wasn’t sure what she should do for the kittens; she couldn’t very well take all 10 home, and she lived a mile away.

So, she thought she’d go home and call a rescue team. It was her best option.

But when she started off down the road again, all 10 baby cats started following her!

Bree kept looking behind her and there they were, following as quickly as they could … again, not even caring one fig about Bree’s dog!

Bree wasn’t too sure what the kittens wanted, though…

Perhaps they only wanted food or some company, but would ten kittens really follow someone for a mile down the road?

Maybe they wanted something more.

Bree was determined to find out, that’s for sure!

She let the kittens follow her and her dog, and when one of the baby cats fell behind, she picked him up and carried him.

Finally, the long mile was over and Bree was home … with a whole bevy of kittens on her heels!

And the instant all the kittens were inside the house, Bree realized that every last one of these poor orphans wanted one thing:

LOVE.

They didn’t follow this strange woman for a mile for only food or water. They didn’t do it because they were terrified.

They did it because they wanted to be loved! And the one person who was supposed to love them, ditched them instead.

And Bree was just so disgusted that someone would do such a thing:

“I was disgusted that someone had just dumped them.

If you can’t afford to desex your cat, or look after and find homes for kittens don’t own a cat.”

Well said!

And by the way, that one little kitten that couldn’t keep up with its brothers and sisters? The one Bree carried?

She ended up keeping that little guy!

And Bree will now see to it that the other nine kittens also find good homes, because that’s what kind-hearted humans do.

In the end, our four-legged friends just want to be loved … if they’re following you, you can bet that’s what they want!

At first, rescuers don’t understand why he’s so scared … then, a video emerges that shows a horrific crime.

And this dog saw everything!

If you didn’t know, Lebanon’s current president, Michel Aoun, recently passed a new animal welfare law that banned the torture and abuse of animals.

However, despite the law, workers from the Municipality of Ghobeiry brought food laced with poison to feed to a family of stray dogs.

How sick is that?!

Sadly, as soon as the dogs ate the poison, they started to die. Onlookers were horrified.

One of them filmed the event and made sure that Animals Lebanon, a local animal welfare organization, received a copy.

“The video is quite graphic,” Maggie Shaarawi, vice president of Animals Lebanon, told The Dodo.

“It shows men dressed in municipality uniforms putting food mixed with poison for friendly dogs who come with wagging tails to eat.

Shortly after, the dogs are shivering on the ground.”

The only dog that survived was the one that ran away from the men, instead of towards them.

Everyone who saw the video was shocked, including the president himself.

He posted a photo of himself with his dog on Facebook, along with a statement condemning the way the workers had dealt with the stray dogs.

“The most heartbreaking scene is when one of the dogs approaches the men, almost asking for mercy for his friends who are dying,” Shaarawi added.

“The man didn’t stop there or feel any mercy toward that friendly dog…

…instead he put food on the end of the stick mixed with poison and shoved it in his mouth.”

Talk about disgusting. It makes you want to scream, doesn’t it?

Out of the large group of friendly but unclaimed animals, only one dog in the family survived:

The one dog that didn’t come running out to meet the men.

Indeed, his fear of humans actually saved his life.

When Shaarawi learned of the one survivor she immediately sent a team to find him and bring him to the shelter.

They started calling the dog “Survivor” because his existence was such a miracle.

“He was very scared, and he had his tail between his legs,” Shaarawi said.

“He kept running away. But Kamal, one of our volunteers on the ground, is known for his persistence.

He kept following him until finally he was cornered.”

Once Kamal had captured the dog, he took him to a local vet clinic for a complete checkup.

Thankfully, Survivor turned out to be in good health, despite having lived on the streets for so long.

He had never trusted humans, and now he had even less reason to.

After all, humans had killed all of his family and friends!

And now they had captured him and were, in his mind at least, keeping him prisoner…

“He was very fearful, and he would shake any time someone came near him,” Shaarawi said.

“We took him to our care, and every day we tried to gain his trust.”

It was a long slow process.

They patiently spent time with him, giving him treats and letting him learn that humans could indeed be trusted.

Under their constant care and attention, Survivor slowly blossomed into a confident, happy dog.

Now, not only has Survivor come out of his shell, but his rescuers have discovered that he will make someone a lovely pet.

“He is an adorable dog — smart and gentle,” Shaarawi said.

“He is toilet trained, rarely barks and all he wants is human company.”

He’s a long way from the timid, fearful dog that hid in the bushes instead of taking treats from human strangers.

Thank goodness he didn’t take those “treats,” though!

“Every time I go to see him, he is almost dancing from happiness,” Shaarawi added.

“His whole body is shaking right and left.”

The poor thing looks sad and beaten … it seems as if he was abandoned on a hot Virginia street corner with nothing to eat or drink.

The Good Samaritan gets a little closer and sees that the animal is scared and a little confused.

Worse still, he can’t move because someone has tied him to a pole with his leash!

Yes, it’s a very sad situation, so this concerned pedestrian quickly calls Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC).

Animal control officers are on the scene in minutes, and they’re immediately grateful that the Good Samaritan called. Said RACC director Christie Chipps Peters:

“My name is Oreo. I’m over 10 years old. I have anxiety.

My owner died. I’m really good. I need a home.”

But she’s very glad she opened that door, because what she finds drops her jaw!

She sees an injured pup, looking both frightened and sad, and she also spots a car speeding away into the night.

In an instant, she knows what happened:

Some cold-hearted person ditched this poor hurt animal on her porch, rang the doorbell, and then disappeared!

The woman quickly brings the terrified pooch inside and calls the RSPCA.

Inspector Phil Norman arrives to collect the injured canine, and at the same time, the woman decides to review the security camera footage from her front yard.

Sure enough, she’d been correct, as Norman said in a press release:

Her owner, Rob Jerry, had just taken Sadie out for her morning walk, which the active pooch usually loves.

But Sadie just kept staring down the driveway, and she wouldn’t come when Jerry called.

That’s when Sadie’s owner followed his pet’s gaze … and he couldn’t believe what he saw!

From a distance, it looked like a hurt deer lying in the driveway.

“I thought that’s what she was just sitting there looking at,” Jerry said.

“And then I listened for a couple seconds and I could hear that it wasn’t a grunt it was a ‘help.’”

Then he got a little closer and realized with a shock:

It was his 89-year-old neighbor, Albert Larson!

The elderly man had fallen on his way to get the morning paper, and the fall had resulted in a broken hip.

That’s what Sadie had spotted and the instant Jerry saw the desperate man, he rushed inside to call 911.

As it turns out, Larson had been lying on the frozen driveway for some time; he’d tried to crawl back to his house, but he’d run out of energy.

Worse still, he’d become stuck to the ice! What an awful situation for an 89-year-old individual!

Well, as Jerry was inside making the life-saving phone call, Sadie held vigil by the injured neighbor’s side.

This is one loyal pooch that wasn’t about to let anything bad happen!

Sadie absolutely didn’t budge from Larson’s side while help was on the way. She was the protector!

And now, after Larson recovers from his harrowing experience, he and his wife will be able to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

All thanks to one of mankind’s best friends … they just keep proving how important they are, don’t they?

But the reason Nicki Fricker heard was a little strange … and when she saw the tiny pup that was being left behind, her heart just broke.

Nicki was in the parking lot of the Jefferson County SPCA in New York, waiting for the shelter to open.

That’s when she spotted an adorable little dachshund sitting close by.

There was a man with her and at first, Nicki thought the guy had found a stray and was bringing it to the shelter.

But as it turns out, the pup was actually his, and he was getting rid of the poor creature.

But why? Nicki just had to know, so she asked and his reply dropped her jaw:

“I’m giving her to the shelter because we are having a baby and we don’t need to practice with a dog anymore.”

What…?

We’ve heard of couples choosing to adopt pets instead of having children, but using a dog as “practice” for a baby is just weird.

Even if it you think it makes sense, you just decide to abandon the poor animal when you’re done “practicing?”

What the heck is that?!

At any rate, Nicki couldn’t believe what she was hearing, and she was overjoyed when the man asked if she wanted the tiny dachshund.

The pup’s name was Dotty and before she knew it, she was in Nicki’s car on her way to her new home.

The scared pooch never even had to set one paw inside the shelter!

But Dotty trembled in Nicki’s lap all the way home; it was obvious she was still somewhat frightened, and not quite sure what was going on.

The good news is it didn’t take long for Dotty – who would later be renamed Molly – to adapt to her new surroundings.

Not only did she have a loving new mamma, she also had two new canine friends: Moo and Maddie!

They’re big white dogs that dwarf little Molly, but they all get along quite well.

Being the founder of the animal rescue organization The Abandoned Ones (TAO), Judy Obregon had seen such sad sights many times before.

In Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth, Texas, it was a very common occurrence:

People would just leave their pets in the park and disappear; it happened so often, in fact, that Obregon started daily walks to find abandoned animals.

And here was a pet house, though there didn’t appear to be any activity inside…

Even so, Obregon knew she had to check, because there could be an abandoned creature in desperate need of help.

At the same time, it was a wooded area and it was very possible that a wild animal was waiting for her in there…

Maybe an angry raccoon!

Well, this determined rescuer just had to find out.

She cautiously pulled back the flap and gasped: there were two scared eyes peeking out from behind a pillow!
