It’s brutal and severe and even adults should never, ever go hiking alone.

And when a defenseless 2-year-old is left outside in the elements, the poor innocent baby has almost zero chance of survival.

In short, getting lost or abandoned out there essentially means death.

So when a totally evil woman abandoned her small child on a frigid cold Siberian night, nobody thought the little tyke was going to survive.

Even if they could reach him, temperatures were plummeting to -12 degrees Celsius (about 10 degrees Fahrenheit).

Almost nobody could survive, much less an toddler…right?

Well, nobody told one hero dog that the situation was hopeless.

This amazing canine spotted the freezing child and quickly approached; seeing the little boy in tremendous distress, the dog knew what it had to do:

He quickly wrapped himself around the 2-year-old, imparting a lot of body heat and warmth thanks to his fur.

And there he stayed for two whole days, protecting the boy with his body.

Incredibly, neighbors finally found the pair and though the child was suffering from hypothermia, he was definitely alive!

The callous mother of that little boy is now up on charges, too, and she deserves nothing less than a stiff punishment.

Dogs rescuing children in dire straits seems to be par for the course in Siberia, though.

Three years earlier, a 3-year-old girl named Karina got lost in the wilderness with her dog. That dog eventually returned after 9 days and led rescuers to Karina!

Both children are alive and well today, all thanks to man’s best friend.

Doesn’t get much more miraculous than this!

But it’s even more heinous when the owner in question lies about the situation.

That’s exactly what happened to a poor dog named Kai, who was thankfully rescued in the nick of time.

Kai was blind, deaf, and clearly starving to death, but despite the animal’s obvious hardships, he was still treated like dirt.

The owners wouldn’t allow him inside the house at all and Kai just kept wasting away in the backyard.

Some concerned citizens alerted rescuers but Kai’s owners were able to produce old photos showing a very cheerful-looking pup. What was going on?

Well, something must’ve happened because that very same owner, who said Kai simply refused to eat, was lying through his teeth.

When Animal Rescue North West – S.N.A.R.R. came into the picture, they found a suffering dog covered with pressure wounds and clearly in need of medical attention. And food.

And what happened when they tried to feed Kai?

Oh, he ate it all immediately.

He scarfed it down just like any animal would that was in desperate need of sustenance.

So, it was clear the owner wasn’t telling the truth and rescuers were able to remove Kai from such a dangerous and abusive home.

Now, the dog is on the mend and doing well; though it may take time to recover physically and mentally from his ordeal, he should be able to bounce back.

And here’s hoping that wherever he goes next, he will be treated with love and respect!

While that can be tough to take, sometimes you eventually realize it was all for the best.

That’s exactly what happened to this adorable pooch named Helena, who was brought to an animal shelter in Atlanta, Georgia for an unfathomable reason.

On the surface, that reason seems downright insane but when you dig a little deeper…

Helena’s former owner had decided that the dog was simply too nice.

Yes, seriously!

But wait, there’s a somewhat logical reason behind it, as LifeLine Animal Project spokesperson Karen Hirsch told Today.

“Yes, she really was returned for being too nice.

It was obvious the gentleman was looking for a guard/protection dog.

He also suggested she be adopted by a woman ‘because they are more into that petting stuff.’“

Bizarre reason for arriving there aside, Helena had zero trouble fitting right into her new surroundings.

She’s incredibly agreeable and easygoing, and she absolutely loves getting attention from folks she quickly forms a bond with.

“She sticks to your side like Velcro,” Hirsch added.

Just look at that incredible smile!

Helena was originally picked up by the shelter as a stray, but the person who adopted her the first time was the one who brought her back.

We’ll hold out hope that she finds a forever home – and a much better fit – before too long.

Based on her awesome personality, we’ll lean towards that happening sooner rather than later!

Wouldn’t you want this lovable pooch to cuddle with on cold nights?

That sentiment applies to our furry little friends as well, as this incredible tale from the UK demonstrates:

Clyde, a 4-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier, was out in the backyard of his home one morning.

He was a well cared-for and happy pup but he had an itch…

And when he noticed that the back gate was open, that was all he needed to see.

The adventurous canine decided it was high time for an adventure!

So, he escaped out the gate and went to do a little sightseeing. But he didn’t just wander into the woods; he wound up by the Hengoed Railway Station!

Clyde wasn’t about to come this far without pushing the envelope even further, either.

He would amazingly hop on a train headed for the town of Bargoed, and he quickly made fast friends with all the passengers on board.

All the while, though, his frantic owner was desperately trying to locate her four-legged friend. She dropped a post on social media explaining the situation.

As luck would have it, a passenger on the train saw the post. The ruse was up from that point: Clyde was busted as a runaway!

The train conductor was informed of the situation, and Clyde was treated to a seat in the driver’s compartment for the remainder of the journey.

British Transport Police met the train at the next stop, and Clyde was reunited with his family soon thereafter.

Joanne Davies, Clyde’s owner, recounted the experience in another post on social media.

“It was the longest 3 hours of my life,” she wrote.

We’re going to guess that Clyde felt the same way, and we can only hope that he got a ton of snacks after getting home for some much-needed rest after his eventful day.

But hey, when you gotta roam, you just gotta roam!

This squirrel is the perfect example: she got into the pumpkin patch where several of them had fermented, and after she had her fill, she decided she better get to her nest.

Easier said than done.

The struggle is real! The first attempt up the tree makes her realize that it’s going to be harder than she thought.

She hangs on for a few seconds, then tumbles back to the ground and just lays there for a few seconds to regroup.

She looks up as if to say, “Can you help a girl out?”

But she’s not ready to give up just yet!

She gets back on the tree, and then just hangs there with her bottom sagging contemplating her next move.

This stuff takes some time to wear off,  ya know.

You can tell; she gets back on the ground and starts shaking her tail.

But one day his owner decided to test that loyalty by faking his death in front of his best friend, and well, it didn’t go as expected.

Sparta watches with only mild interest as the man clutches his chest as he fakes a dramatic death.

He’s really putting on a performance!

He falls to his knees still clutching his chest and groaning.

Then he falls to the floor and pretends to be dead.

Sparta comes over to investigate and sniffs his dad.

See? The loyal pet is worried, right?

He’s going to get very anxious or upset, right? That’s how concerned animals act, after all…

But no.

Sparta just wanders off to the side and just lays down!

He’s not going to help; he’s just going take a nap. Yep, sounds like a typical cat.

His owner, sounding like his feelings are little hurt at the lack of sympathy looks up and says, “REALLY DUDE?!”

Needless to say, Spartan’s reaction was hilarious, even if it did hurt his dad’s feelings a little.

But no worries, he made up for it later by giving him lots of snuggles, and he was forgiven.

Jaxon is no different. The 12-year-old pup has a green dragon, appropriately named Greenie by his family, that he takes everywhere.

The two are just inseparable; Greenie is Jaxon’s very best friend!

But recently, Jaxon’s human mom, Kelli, took to Facebook to ask if anyone knew of where she could get a new one.

Why? Well, sadly, the manufacturer stopped making Jaxon’s beloved green dragon and the one he has now is worn out.

She even reached out to Petsmart hoping there may be one on one of their shelves.

She was hoping for a lead, but she never expected the overwhelming response that she got! And not from Petsmart, either…

People started sharing her request and then fellow animal lovers quickly began sending her pictures of replacements for Greenie.

Everyone really wanted to help poor Jaxon out!

However, even though Kelli appreciated the warm gestures, she knew they just wouldn’t work.

She explained:

“We’ve tried other green toys over the years, he won’t have anything to do with them.”

She said Jaxon is a picky weirdo (albeit a cute one). And there’s only one stuffed green dragon for him!

Her plea finally made it to a popular Facebook group, and then it made it to Petsmart from there.

Amazingly, employees around the country went to work to try to hunt down Greenies in their stores.

And guess what?

This week, Jaxon received a special delivery…not one, but EIGHT green dragons in the mail! It even had a special card for Jaxon.

Now Jaxon is in Greenie heaven!

Never underestimate the power of social media!

That’s one happy pup!

Unfortunately, not everyone shows them the respect they deserve.

In some parts of the world, people will chain a horse’s front and back legs together so it can’t run away.

Imagine how a wild horse that is used to being free would struggle in such a situation!

But thankfully, one man saw a poor horse in that very situation and sprang into action.

A veterinarian in Romania found a horse chained that way, and the chains were so tight that it was cutting into the horse’s legs and feet.

He knew he had to free the poor creature before the beautiful animal suffered serious injury.

He cut away the chains, and stepped back and squatted down to watch, not knowing how the horse was going to react.

The vet set to work, carefully cutting the horse free. Before too long, the pretty creature was back on its feet, and very grateful.

Setting the beautiful animal free was thanks enough, but the horse thanked him in a very special way…

It came over and nuzzled him on the nose several times. How sweet!

The vet was stupefied and could only smile at the touching gesture.

The vet watched the horse a little longer, and it, along with its mate, trotted off into the sunset.

How’s that for a storybook ending with the appropriate “thank you” at the end?

He looks so amazing that he quickly became a canine sensation on social media. Just look at that face!

Halieigh said:

“The older he’s getting clearer the love hearts around his eyes are becoming.

They’re so symmetrical that I have had a few people asking if I draw his heart spots on with eyeliner which I find really funny.“

Nope, the hearts are not painted on and it’s not an edited photo. This is just what Charlie looks like.

She said she’d never had a dog before, and adopted Charlie before she even met him.

Since that fateful day, he has become her best friend, and she loves coming home to him to since she moved away from family.

They have their own page on Instagram dedicated to Charlie’s heart-loving fans, and he’s become quite the celebrity.

It’s no surprise that everyone loves him…he’s so special!

When he’s outside in the yard, he chases them up trees and barks like mad. It is HIS yard, after all!

His little legs just won’t carry him fast enough, though, so he’s never had the pleasure of catching one of the yard rodents.

“He tries to catch them, but he’s quite small and has never been successful,” his owner, Lainey said.

Now, one squirrel has decided to take revenge against Buddy for chasing him day in and day out, and there’s absolutely nothing he can do about it.

The squirrel doesn’t just bark at him from the treetops. He takes the feud to a whole new height by taking a hostage!

Buddy made the mistake of leaving his favorite toy outdoors, and the squirrel took notice right away.

Seeing Buddy’s toy left unattended, he quickly snatched it up, knowing it was going to break Buddy’s heart.

He claimed the toy as his own and disappeared.

The thief unfortunately made his getaway before Buddy could get to him.

He scrambled up a tree and took the blue toy to his nest, and poor Buddy was just beside himself!

Buddy’s family mourned along with him.

“Woke up to horrible news that my dog’s favorite toy has been kidnapped by a squirrel and is being held captive in a tree,” Lainey said.

It was a hard day for Buddy, but he tried to keep his head up and a smile on his face.

So the ball is in Buddy’s court now. Will he chase the squirrels with more vigor and gusto because of his newfound hate over his toy?

Or will the squirrel use the toy for a peace offering to end the backyard feud?

Only time will tell…
