In fact, he thought it was a human at first!

That’s why he and his friend, who were out fishing on Lake Vygozero in northwestern Russia, sped directly toward the floating blob.

If it was a human, that person would be in dire need of assistance because the water temperature was frigid.

In fact, Lake Vygozero is infamous for having incredibly cold water; it can go down to 4 degrees below zero!

So, Ruslan and his fishing buddy headed toward the brown spot on the water, preparing for a rescue.

But when they got closer, they realized it wasn’t a human … whatever it was had fur.

And it was gigantic!

Then, when they brought up the binoculars, they saw that it was actually THREE brown blobs:

One was a mother brown bear and the other two were her struggling cubs!

That’s when the mama bear did something the fishermen couldn’t believe:

Instead of sticking with her cubs, she turned around and headed back to shore, leaving the two babies behind.

The cubs were having trouble staying afloat and they couldn’t keep up with their mother, who was obviously a stronger swimmer.

As they watched the mother swim away in consternation, the fishermen knew they had to help.

And even though the bears in trouble were just babies, they knew it would indeed be a little risky. But as Ruslan said:

“It was dangerous of course. But they are living creatures. We couldn’t just look the other way.”

They steered toward the drowning cubs and before they knew it, the first one tried climbing into the boat!

But he was too weak to make it, so the fishermen grabbed a net and scooped up the terrified animal.

The second cub was even more exhausted; it couldn’t even attempt to lift itself into the boat, so Ruslan and his friend did all the work for him.

Once they’d safely snagged both cubs, the fishermen headed directly to a nearby island…

The island the mama bear was waiting on!

Under the mother’s watchful eye, Ruslan and his friend unloaded their precious cargo on the beach, and then motored off.

After all, it’s not a good idea to be near cubs when when the mother bear is nearby!

And although it would forever remain a mystery as to why the mother bear had left the cubs in the lake, at least those two babies were safe.

All because two determined fishermen weren’t about to let them drown … no matter how big their claws were!

Things seemed pretty normal … until she stumbled across 10 abandoned kittens huddled by the side of the road!

These poor little kitties were scared and starving, though they didn’t seem too frightened by Bree’s pet pup.

Bree just wasn’t sure what she should do for the kittens; she couldn’t very well take all 10 home, and she lived a mile away.

So, she thought she’d go home and call a rescue team. It was her best option.

But when she started off down the road again, all 10 baby cats started following her!

Bree kept looking behind her and there they were, following as quickly as they could … again, not even caring one fig about Bree’s dog!

Bree wasn’t too sure what the kittens wanted, though…

Perhaps they only wanted food or some company, but would ten kittens really follow someone for a mile down the road?

Maybe they wanted something more.

Bree was determined to find out, that’s for sure!

She let the kittens follow her and her dog, and when one of the baby cats fell behind, she picked him up and carried him.

Finally, the long mile was over and Bree was home … with a whole bevy of kittens on her heels!

And the instant all the kittens were inside the house, Bree realized that every last one of these poor orphans wanted one thing:

LOVE.

They didn’t follow this strange woman for a mile for only food or water. They didn’t do it because they were terrified.

They did it because they wanted to be loved! And the one person who was supposed to love them, ditched them instead.

And Bree was just so disgusted that someone would do such a thing:

“I was disgusted that someone had just dumped them.

If you can’t afford to desex your cat, or look after and find homes for kittens don’t own a cat.”

Well said!

And by the way, that one little kitten that couldn’t keep up with its brothers and sisters? The one Bree carried?

She ended up keeping that little guy!

And Bree will now see to it that the other nine kittens also find good homes, because that’s what kind-hearted humans do.

In the end, our four-legged friends just want to be loved … if they’re following you, you can bet that’s what they want!

Her owner, Rob Jerry, had just taken Sadie out for her morning walk, which the active pooch usually loves.

But Sadie just kept staring down the driveway, and she wouldn’t come when Jerry called.

That’s when Sadie’s owner followed his pet’s gaze … and he couldn’t believe what he saw!

From a distance, it looked like a hurt deer lying in the driveway.

“I thought that’s what she was just sitting there looking at,” Jerry said.

“And then I listened for a couple seconds and I could hear that it wasn’t a grunt it was a ‘help.’”

Then he got a little closer and realized with a shock:

It was his 89-year-old neighbor, Albert Larson!

The elderly man had fallen on his way to get the morning paper, and the fall had resulted in a broken hip.

That’s what Sadie had spotted and the instant Jerry saw the desperate man, he rushed inside to call 911.

As it turns out, Larson had been lying on the frozen driveway for some time; he’d tried to crawl back to his house, but he’d run out of energy.

Worse still, he’d become stuck to the ice! What an awful situation for an 89-year-old individual!

Well, as Jerry was inside making the life-saving phone call, Sadie held vigil by the injured neighbor’s side.

This is one loyal pooch that wasn’t about to let anything bad happen!

Sadie absolutely didn’t budge from Larson’s side while help was on the way. She was the protector!

And now, after Larson recovers from his harrowing experience, he and his wife will be able to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

All thanks to one of mankind’s best friends … they just keep proving how important they are, don’t they?

Like many young girls, she wanted that puppy more than anything in the world.

She dreamed of it so often, she even had a name all picked out when she finally got her little pup: Winston.

For three long years, she begged her mom to get her a “Winston.”

Whenever they saw a puppy, Tatum would point and say, “Look Mom, it’s Winston!”

But her dreams went unfulfilled for a while, so she had to content herself with dogs and pups owned by others.

This includes Tatum’s birthday. The family was eating outside when a friend wandered by carrying an adorable puppy.

The friend held a poochon (a mix between a golden doodle and a bichon frise) and the tiny pup was only a few weeks old.

Of course, Tatum immediately raced over and asked if she could hold the little fella.

The friend obliged and Tatum tenderly cradled the puppy, obviously ecstatic. But she wasn’t half as ecstatic as she was about to be…

Because Tatum’s mother then asked, “What’s his name?”

The friend immediately replied: “Winston!”

At first, Tatum thought it was just a coincidence.

But then her mother leaned over and said, “Happy Birthday,” and Tatum just froze … could those words mean what they thought she meant?

Yes!

It was hers! Mom and her friends had set the whole thing up!

“One week before her actual birthday, my good friend and her son helped us create the big surprise.

They posed as new dog owners of a sweet little poochon.”

Well, that just opened the floodgates. A deliriously happy Tatum could hardly believe it, and she broke down in tears.

You can bet on two things:

First, that Tatum will never forget this particular birthday.

And second, it’s a guarantee that Winston is going to have a wonderful life. Tatum will undoubtedly care for this pup as if he was her own child!

And that’s exactly the way it should be, right?

And nobody could figure out why.

The pups appeared to be in decent condition when they showed up outside the Hospital Aguda in Brazil, but they absolutely refused to leave.

They’d stick around the front of the hospital and occasionally wander in to meet the visitors and staff.

But no matter what, they weren’t going to leave. That much was obvious.

Finally, the nurses decided to look into the matter, to see if they could figure out why the dogs were so insistent on staying.

And what they found out … well, it’ll bring tears to the eyes of all pet lovers everywhere!

The nurses discovered that one of the dogs, named Princess, belonged to a patient that had recently been transferred to that hospital.

The other dog, Scooby, was Princess’ best friend and stayed by her side at all times.

The two somehow knew their sick owner was inside, and they weren’t going to leave him alone!

That’s the tremendous love and loyalty of our four-legged friends, right there.

Well, after the pups were cleared to enter the hospital (a brief checkup was all they needed), the nurses new what to do:

They quickly rushed Princess and Scooby inside, and brought them directly to the bedside of their ailing owner.

That was really what the pooches wanted all along, too, and it was clear they lifted the spirits of the sick man.

The lonely cat would often show up in a certain family’s backyard, looking for some food and affection.

Then one day, Tommy showed up as usual … but very clearly, something awful had happened to the poor kitty.

Tommy had severe burns all over his face and he was obviously in a lot of pain.

In horror, the family realized that someone had poured acid all over the innocent creature!

Well, they couldn’t just let Tommy walk around like that, so they quickly scooped him up and rushed him to the vet’s.

And at first, after the vet realized Tommy had FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), he wanted to put the cat down.

But the family didn’t like that idea, because they really saw something special in Tommy…

They believed this cat had a ton to offer the world; there was just something about his personality.

So, despite the odds being stacked against Tommy, they decided to push forward and give him a chance: they contacted Milo’s Sanctuary to see if they would accept the suffering cat.

Thankfully, they were happy to take Tommy in, and that’s when his long road to recovery began.

For six long weeks, Tommy slowly got better and better. He underwent numerous skin grafts and lots of bandaging and rebandaging, too.

But Tommy never lost his lovable demeanor and as it turns out, that attitude, coupled with his “new look,” went a long way…

As lo and behold, the family was exactly right: they really HAD seen something special in Tommy, because this kitty had what Hollywood calls, “the ‘it’ factor!”

Incredibly, the unique-looking kitty became the camera’s best friend overnight!

Tommy’s quirky face and outgoing personality are perfect for pictures, as Milo’s Sanctuary president Michele Hoffman says:

“He loves to go out in the public and meet friends.

He’s kind of a ham and knows when he’s having his photo taken.

He loves tuna flakes and that’s one of our secrets to the great photos of him. He would do just about anything for some tuna flakes.”

Though Tommy has only one eye, he doesn’t act like a disabled animal at all.

He loves all the attention!

And now that he’s such a big hit, Tommy has his own Instagram account under the fantastic name, Sir Thomas Trueheart.

Added Hoffman:

“That has been the most amazing thing to be a part of … how much people love him and how much he’s inspired people all over the world.

On his [Instagram] account every Thursday we do Cruelty Free Thursday with Tommy and cover different subjects, and it is our desire to get people motivated to make a difference locally and globally for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

From being a frightened stray that gets acid dumped all over him, to inspiring millions.

…that might be the biggest and best turnaround ever!

On June 25, temperatures were soaring and everyone was trying to stay cool. That went double for our furry friends.

But unfortunately, some four-legged creatures aren’t blessed with caring, loving owners.

York City Center police officers got a call that two dogs were trapped inside a blazing hot car, and the owner wasn’t anywhere in sight.

Nobody knew how long the owner had been gone, but it was obvious that both dogs – adorable Labradors – were suffering.

How much longer could the poor pooches last inside that baking metal oven…?

Well, the cops found the doors locked and they couldn’t immediately locate the negligent owner. So, they made a snap decision:

They knew the pups wouldn’t last much longer, and they had to do something drastic…

#PC1810 and PCSO 3680 have just rescued two dogs from a vehicle where the owners had left them for over half an hour in a car in the blazing hot sun. In a flash, they smashed the driver-seat window to get into the parked car, and reached the dying dogs!

It was so hot inside the car that even the officers had trouble breathing … can you imagine what it must’ve been like for those poor animals?

The pups were quickly rushed to a nearby veterinarian to be treated for obvious heat exhaustion, and they remained in the care of the RSPCA for quite some time.

And in the meantime, the police department wrote on Twitter that “the owners will be prosecuted,” and added:

“There is no excuse for this, I am utterly appalled…“

The RSPCA also had a response to this terrible event:

“A car can become as hot as an oven very quickly, even when it doesn’t feel that warm.

When it’s 22 degrees (71 °F), in a car it can reach an unbearable 47 degrees (116 °F) within the hour.”

They added that “dogs die in hot cars” and sadly, this happens all the time, in all parts of the world.

But as the police said, there’s just no excuse for this!

Thankfully, the cops acted strongly and just in time … nobody cares about a person’s property when the lives of innocent animals are on the line!

A German shepherd, Iris, and a pit bull, Clover, stuck by each other. They were survivors.

Locals say the poor pups had been abandoned, and both had been living in a nearby forest for weeks.

And the problem was that nobody could get close enough to help, because the frightened dogs were simply too scared. They always ran away.

But one rescuer was determined to gain the trust of both pooches.

Judy Obregon is the founder of The Abandoned Ones (TAO), and she was convinced she could get Iris and Clover to trust her.

It was going to take time, patience, and skill, though. As Obregon wrote on Facebook:

They can’t tell exactly what it is, but it’s definitely a living animal.

But what was it? And how badly was it hurt? When they found it, would it be savable?

Well, these were all questions Fernando Marie and his colleague had to ask when they started digging through the garbage, in search of the lost soul.

These two sanitation workers from Uruguay have certainly seen their fair share of weird stuff, but they weren’t prepared for what they’d find…

And they knew they had to work fast, too! As Marie told The Dodo:

“We can’t save the world, but we can do something about the one in front of us.”

Obviously, they’re an active, kind-hearted bunch, which is why they often save lost animals wandering around their hometown of Harlan, Kentucky.

So, when they spotted a huge Great Pyrenees lying in the middle of the road, they knew they had another opportunity to help.

For some reason, this big fluffy creature just refused to move, even as oncoming traffic swerved around him!

Immediately, the Ringstaff family assumed the poor animal was hurt, and that was why he couldn’t get out of the road.

But when they stopped and approached the dog, they didn’t spot any signs of injury … really, the big pooch appeared to be just fine.

Then why wouldn’t he move?

Well, they looked around a little and discovered the heartbreaking answer…

Lying in a ditch nearby was another dog; it had clearly been hit by a passing vehicle, and it hadn’t survived the impact.

And now it was all clear:

The Great Pyrenees refused to leave his furry friend’s side!

Either he didn’t know the poor pup was gone and was staying to protect him, or he was simply mourning the loss of his pal.

Whatever the exact reason, the Ringstaffs couldn’t get the massive pup into their truck. He just wouldn’t move.

They realized they couldn’t do anything at that moment, but they resolved to return later with more help.

And that’s exactly what they did: 10 hours later, they came back with reinforcements and yes, the grieving pup was still in the road.

This time, the Ringstaffs were able to hoist the big pooch into their truck and take him home.

Unfortunately, they learned that the dog belonged to someone who’d recently moved away, and had just abandoned the poor Great Pyrenees.

They’d probably abandoned the other pup, too, the one that had perished by the side of the highway.

Well, that was just too sad a tale, so the Ringstaffs decided to care for the gigantic pooch, and called him Hachi (inspired by the 2009 movie, “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”).

And as Melissa Ringstaff says:

“We’d found him loyally staying with his buddy who died.”

But you know, they thought that name was too sad, so they renamed him Tucker. And Melissa says it “perfectly fit the dog’s personality.”

“He’s incredibly sweet, very gentle, and we’ve yet to hear him bark.”

And Tucker probably wouldn’t be around today if it weren’t for this ambitious, animal-loving family!

But don’t you think it’s amazing just how loyal dogs are, both to humans and each other…?
