Paralyzed Pooch Floors Vet Just As He’s About To Be Euthanized

It’s expensive to own a pet.
So, when faced with the prospect of astronomical bills, when there’s no guarantee of the outcome, many pet owners have to make the horrifying decision of choosing to euthanize their pet.
When six-year-old Helios, a pretty tan and white pit bull, ran into a fence while chasing a squirrel, he damaged his neck so severely, vets were afraid he’d never walk again.
Sadly, the popular consensus was that Helios should be euthanized.
Treatment would be very expensive and there was still no guarantee that Helios would ever regain the use of his legs.
But his owner, Jennifer, refused to give up on him!
She knew her dog was a fighter and she would be beside him every step of the way. Even when he couldn’t take a step at all yet!
It was tough going at the start: For a while, Helios had no control over his bodily functions; he wore diapers and had a catheter.
Vets put him on a steroid regimen, and suggested swim therapy to rebuild the muscles in his legs that were beginning to atrophy from disuse.
Amazingly, the regimen worked like a charm. Although Helios is far from being fully recovered he is now showing vast signs of improvement.
Helios is finally learning to walk again and has successfully used all four paws to get around!
That’s huge for a dog deemed beyond hope just 3 months ago!
His vets, swim coach, and even his owner may have been unsure he’d ever walk again, but Helios continues to defy the odds and prove everyone wrong.
His steps are a little wobbly and he has a long road ahead of him before he’s fully recovered, but his chances get better every single day!
Keep up the good work Helios.
And might we suggest that when you’re fully recovered, you might want to leave those squirrels alone! 😉
