Man Finds Pitbull Chained Up In His Basement – He Goes Downstairs, And The Mystery Deepens

Animal rescue workers encounter all sorts of deplorable situations.

But Randy Grim and Cassady Caldwell of Stray Rescue of St. Louis will probably never forget one particular call they received from a new homeowner.

The man called the shelter because immediately after moving into his new house, he opened the door to the basement and received quite the shock.

It wouldn’t be surprising to find some strange things in a cellar, but he certainly wasn’t expecting to see this:

A strange pit bull, abandoned and chained up!

The dog appeared to be friendly but the man wasn’t about to take any chances; he called up the shelter and requested assistance.

Stray Rescue of St. Louis showed up, and they accompanied the new homeowner downstairs and into the basement … where they were met with another huge surprise!

The basement appeared to have been someone’s home for a long time. Rescuers figured it had been a squatter, as they found a sleeping bag and other evidence of a makeshift home.

Amazingly, whoever had been staying there had kept this poor pup chained in the basement. And when the house was sold, the squatter just up and left.

Therefore, nobody was sure how long the lonely pit bull had been without sunshine or other necessities.

Furthermore, how had this dog remained unknown to realtors and inspectors during the selling process? How was this possible?

Well, the rescuers figured they may never get answers to those questions, but they were happy with the dog– she was absolutely thrilled to be free of her prison!

And she showed it by jumping joyfully on anyone who came near, which is why she quickly earned her new name of Jumping Bean.

Jumping Bean seemed to love everything about her fresh new life; she smiled and wagged her tail and barked happily.

She quickly became a favorite at the shelter, too, so here’s hoping Jumping Bean will soon find her fur-ever home!

How could anyone leave such a wonderful pooch chained up in a dark, filthy basement? And why would you take on the responsibility of pet ownership when you didn’t even have a place to live?

Well, at least Jumping Bean can put all this terrible mystery behind her. Good times ahead for you, you adorable pup! 😀
