Tiny Adorable Poodle Pup Almost Got Put Down, All Because Of One Sad Deformity

Little Nala Rose was just a few weeks old, and she was already close to death.
Why? Because this adorable poodle pup had been born with an abnormality, and Nala’s owner was considering putting her down.
The owner was a breeder and she knew that puppies with any deficiencies or other physical difficulties simply weren’t worth as much to customers.
Most breeders can sell small-breed pups for upwards of $1,000, but poor Nala wasn’t going to fetch such an exorbitant sum.
On top of which, Nala’s quality of life was in serious question. And so, the breeder and her wife had to make a difficult decision…
Should they end Nala’s life before it even really begins? Would it be better for her?
The problem was that the adorable pooch was born with eyelids, but no eyes. And it was such a tragic turn of events, as St. Louis Senior Dog Project volunteer Joan Wiegers remembers:
“The breeder never had something like this happen.
She and her husband discussed the option of euthanasia because she was uncertain of what quality of life the puppy would have.”
The good news is that the couple finally decided they couldn’t kill Nala Rose. It was just too brutal of a solution.
But at the same time, they knew it’d be hard to find the poodle puppy a home, so they contacted a rescue to see what could be done.
That’s when Joan Wiegers took Nala to an adoption event at a local pet store … and suddenly, the puppy’s wildest dreams came true!
A family totally fell in love with the adorable pooch and the daughter, Jayden Radtke, had this to say:
“My mom was holding Nala Rose, and when I came back from picking out food for our other dog, she was going over adoption papers.
When we first got her, we didn’t really know much about where she came from until her first vet checkup with us.”
Even better, Nala Rose now has a dog sister named Ellie, who has taken on the helpful role of guide dog. Ellie is Nala’s eyes and it’s working out beautifully!
Nala is a curious little dog and she loves the company of other dogs as well. And is she scared by the fact that she can’t see?
Not at all!
“She thinks she’s a big dog,” Radtke said.
“She has met much bigger dogs like huskies and just plays and runs around with them. She is never intimidated!”
Some people don’t even realize Nala has no eyes; they just see a beautiful, happy pup that loves life. And thanks to the Radtke family, Nala gets to live that life!
Finished Radtke:
“We were heartbroken to think about what might have happened to her.
It’s so sad that some people don’t think pets with disabilities can have a good quality of life and be happy.
We can’t imagine her living a better life than she is now.”
Many thanks to the Radtke family, and here’s hoping Nala Rose’s life is an incredible one! 😀
