Rescue Worker Peeks In Trash Bin Left Outside Shelter And Immediately Calls For Help

Sometimes finding a gift outside your door is a wonderful thing.Even if you’ve ordered something that arrives in the mail, it’s always exciting to find a package waiting for you.

Surprises left for you with no warning aren’t always happy ones though.

A worker at a rural shelter in Del Rio, Texas, opened the door and found a package there that made everyone involved VERY unhappy!

When everyone peered into the storage bin, they were stunned and appalled to find 10 sets of eyes peering back at them.

On one of the coldest days of the year, someone had abandoned 10 baby puppies with no bedding, no cover, and no food or water on their doorstep.

“They were left in that bin like trash … There was no care, no respect.”

They had crept away silently, like the creeps they are (!) so there was no way to find out who was responsible.

The only thing left to do was take care of the babies immediately!

They got them indoors and began trying to warm them up; once a baby puppy is chilled, it cannot digest food until its insides are as warm as its outside.

Feeding a chilled puppy is a actually death sentence: milk will curdle in its stomach and it will die. So, job one was getting them warm!

Once they were warmed up, it was time to evaluate their condition. And that saddened and angered the staff even further…

The puppies were quite a bit older than the rescuers initially thought. Their growth had just been stunted by severe malnutrition and neglect.

They were very unhealthy besides, and shelter workers knew that even with the best care possible, their survival at this point was going to be touch and go.

Stacey Silverstein, cofounder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, has been rescuing abused and neglected dogs for the last 10 years, and she’s seen a lot of upsetting things.

But this abandonment really ticked her off!

They were left in that bin like trash,” Silverstein told The Dodo.

They were just thrown in there — piled like garbage, thrown in like trash. There was no care, no respect. Awful.

Silverstein’s group got involved after a shelter volunteer wrote a post about the puppies on Facebook, and word spread.

A woman named Leslie Ysuhuaylas, who volunteers for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC in Texas, picked up the puppies and quickly got them into a good foster home.

Usually, a plea goes out for adoptive homes when these many puppies come into a rescue situation.

But in this case, it will be a very long time before these guys are ready to be adopted.

They have a lot of growing up to do, and a lot of hard work just getting healthy again!

To help these puppies get better so they can find their forever homes, you can make a donation to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.
