Just As The Vet Is About To Euthanize Cancer-Stricken Roxy, He Has A Hunch

Sadly, it is usually a death sentence when a dog is diagnosed with cancer.

Treatments are costly and time-consuming for the owner, too, so most of the time euthanasia is the option that is chosen.

When rescuers at Sidewalk Specials rescue group were called to pick up an owner surrender, all they were told was that the owners couldn’t afford some necessary medical treatments.

It’s a story they hear really often. Sometimes they can help; sometimes they can’t.

When they picked up Roxy, she wagged her tail at them, and even though she was showing obvious symptoms of her cancer (including copious bleeding) the crew vowed to do everything they could!

Despite the fact that her owners had decided her cancer (TVT) was untreatable, the vet for the rescue group said that…insert drum roll here…

Roxy could indeed be treated and should respond well and have a normal life after treatments!

Roxy had a hard time adjusting to shelter life at first, though. She was sad and depressed.

It isn’t easy for anyone to accept the fact that they are unwanted, and she was sick on top of the abandonment.

So, to keep that tail wagging, she went into a foster home while she was going through chemotherapy.

Before long, even though the treatments were very difficult for her, her high spirits returned. And she had canine siblings to play with, too!

The great care Roxy got with her foster mom was the catalyst needed to get Roxy through the most difficult time of her life.

Three months after treatments began, Roxy got the all-clear. Her cancer was cured!

So much for people giving up on an animal when in fact, she had every chance in the world of survival. Just needed a hopeful vet to say so!

Once they got the go-ahead to put Roxy up for adoption, it wasn’t very long at all before a wonderful family succumbed to her charms.

Now she is living the life she was meant to live:

Happy and healthy, surrounded by people and other dogs that love her the way every dog should be loved.
