Black Blob Swims Toward A Fisherman – It Gets Close, And Hops Right Into The Boat

By
A fisherman out for a relaxing paddle in his kayak expected to get a few fish.
He didn’t expect a very large animal to come pay a visit!
Jeremy Van Pelt of Austin, Texas likes to make the drive to Galveston Bay on nice weekends, where he takes his kayak out for some fly fishing.
He’s done it ore than a few times and he’s also caught more than his fair share of fish.
But when he noticed a black blob in the distance swimming right at him, Jeremy quickly realized: it was no fish!
As he told KHOU11:
“I was scanning the water horizon for fish that I could track down with my kayak and low and behold I saw something in the distance.”
It was much bigger than any fish he’d ever seen out on the Bay and besides, it appeared to have its head above water…
But what could it be? Jeremy was a long way from shore so he couldn’t imagine it would be a land-roving animal.
Oh, but it was.
The black blob got closer and closer, and Jeremy was stunned to see that it was a dog!
In fact, it was a good-sized black Labrador, paddling around out in the middle of the gigantic lake!
Jeremy figured the poor thing must be lost and tired, and had no idea how long it had been swimming around, desperately looking for help.
So, he invited the dog to come toward him and seconds later, the friendly Lab hopped right up into the kayak!
Luckily, there was a number on the dog’s collar, so Jeremy was able to contact the dog’s concerned owners.
As it turns out, the pup’s name is Grace and she’s a water-loving pooch that loves to swim. But her mom, Krista White, thinks Grace went in search of her husband’s boat and got lost.
And Krista just couldn’t believe Grace got back, safe and sound:
“It was just unbelievable.
I just I can’t believe she was out in the middle of the bay. There were so many things that could have happened to her.”
But not with Jeremy around!
It was pure luck that he happened to be paddling out in the same vicinity as the wayward pup, so maybe we should call it fate or kismet…?
Either way, Jeremy won’t catch anything half so interesting in the future!
“It was definitely, according to my kiddos, the most exciting thing I’ve ever caught out in Galveston Bay,” he said.
We’d have to agree! Wouldn’t you? 😀
