Cop With Heart Of Gold Spots Pregnant Heroin Addict, Instantly Makes Life-Changing Decision

Officer Ryan Holets has seen it all during his time on the force.

As such, he’s naturally become pretty hardened after dealing with some incredibly unfortunate situations.

Despite that, Holets can still be seriously taken aback when he comes across some of the more mind-blowing circumstances that average folks just can’t process.

He’s only human, after all.

That’s exactly what happened when he came upon a disturbing scene behind a convenience store in Albuquerque, NM.

Holets came across a man and a woman, and they were about to shoot up heroin.

Unfortunately, that’s an all too common scene that cops across the nation have to deal with on a daily basis.

The opioid crisis is the real deal, and it shows no signs of getting better.

Holets begins dressing the couple down as per usual, but he quickly catches on to something unbelievable: the woman is pregnant.

He then asks her how far along she is and when she replies ‘seven or eight months’ he exclaims:

Oh my gosh. Why are you going to be doing that stuff?

It’s going to ruin your baby, you’re going to kill your baby.

Holets became overwhelmed with a feeling that he wanted to help the woman’s child have a fighting chance at life.

After talking it over with his wife, the parents-of-four decided they were going to adopt the baby after she was born.

In an interview Ryan said: “It’s not every day that I see a sight like that and it just, it just made me really sad.

I’d gotten tired of seeing so many situations where I want to help but can’t and in that moment I realised that I had a chance to help.

The baby’s mother, 35-year-old Crystal Champ, is a homeless heroin addict.

She’s incredibly grateful that Holets and his family have welcomed the baby into their home with open arms.

I just want her to be safe and secure and, you know, be with a family and be loved – and have a chance, you know?

Appropriately, Holets and his wife would name the baby girl Hope.

After undergoing medical treatment to deal with the effects of the heroin that her mother had ingested, she seems to be doing just fine.

Holets is also doing all that he can to make sure Champ gets herself into rehab and gets herself cleaned up and off of the streets, too.

Kudos to this amazing officer, who has taken the concept of protect and serve to an amazing level!
