Hiker Hears Cries Coming From A Mine Shaft – He Spots A Desperate Pair Of Eyes And Grabs His Phone

By
Preston Gladd knew there were lots of mines littered around Pike National Forest.
All can be dangerous to both humans and animals, though, so he tends to steer clear of the deep, dark mine shafts.
However, during one of his many hikes in the area, Preston heard growling coming from nearby, and he knew it was coming from underground.
“I just heard growling and animal sounds,” Preston later told CBS News Denver.
“So I thought it was something living in the mine.”
But no, it wasn’t something living in the mine … it was something that had fallen in and couldn’t get out!
At the time, however, the cautious hiker didn’t know that, and he was frightened off by those growls. Wild animals don’t always take kindly to humans, after all.
But Preston couldn’t get the growling out of his head.
He thought perhaps he had misinterpreted the noises; perhaps they hadn’t been menacing, but they’d been cries for help.
With that in mind, he loaded up his two pet dogs, Meeko and Lola, and headed back to the mine shaft.
And this time, he crawled down into the mine and spotted two pairs of glowing eyes. They weren’t coming from anything dangerous, however.
They were coming from a dog!
“So I crawled down into the mine and looked down the shaft and saw there was somebody’s dog with a collar stuck down at the bottom running around.”
Preston immediately got back out and called a friend, who quickly agreed to help.
But it wasn’t going to be an easy rescue: the mine opened into a 60-foot tunnel and then dropped straight down 25 feet.
And the poor pooch was at the very bottom!
But Preston wasn’t about to be deterred; with the help of his friends, he went down the mine shaft, looped a rope around the scared pup, and then everyone began to pull her up.
Finally, the terrified dog popped into daylight and Preston and his pals, well-prepared, immediately gave her some water.
The poor dog was clearly dehydrated and starving, and they estimated he’d been stuck down there for over a week!
Later, they were able to get her all cleaned up, and then went on social media to find the dog’s owner.
Amazingly, the dog’s owner, who’d been in Denver, contacted Preston and his friends the very next day!
The pooch, whose name was Cheyenne, must’ve gone exploring and fallen into a terrible, potentially deadly situation.
But thanks to a trio of determined animal lovers, Cheyenne is back at home, safe and sound.
Exactly where he belongs! 😀
