Elderly Pup Thrown Away Like Trash – Rescuers Hear Owner’s Excuse And Gasp In Dismay

When rescuers heard why an owner was ditching a senior pooch and her brother, they were just in shock.
Volunteers at the Humane Animal Treatment Society hear all sorts of excuses, but this one was especially grievous, simply because the two dogs were elderly.
The pups, Donnie and Marie, spent most of their lives outside. For 10 years, they called a backyard in Michigan home.
And that was okay; they didn’t appear to be mistreated or abused in any way.
But the owner suddenly decided to ditch them at the shelter, and when the team there asked why … well, they weren’t prepared for the response.
Firstly, the owner said the two dogs had been “barking too much,” and she just didn’t want to care for them any longer.
That alone is ridiculous; maybe they were barking because they needed the TLC they weren’t getting!
But then it got worse.
Mandy Risch, the Human Society’s director, asked the owner why the dogs had been riding in the back of a truck bed. It was extremely cold outside, after all.
The owner’s response?
The two dogs were “too smelly” and she didn’t want them inside the truck.
So, they barked too much (likely because they were being mostly ignored) and they smelled (because they desperately needed a bath).
Whose fault is all this?!
Risch said the dogs were absolutely filthy when they arrived at the shelter, too:
“The first time our kennel tech tried to bathe them, her hands were literally black they were so filthy.
Her hands were just covered because they needed a bath so bad.”
The team then realized that Donnie and Marie simply couldn’t be separated; when Donnie was away from Marie’s side, Marie just can’t handle it. Explained Risch:
“She shakes all the time, and when Donnie is not with her she is absolutely lost, she cannot function.
They’re very very scared.”
Well, why wouldn’t they be?
Risch knew the elderly brother-sister tandem wouldn’t last long in a kennel, so she quickly took to Facebook to spread their story.
To her amazement, the post instantly went viral, garnering thousands of Likes and Shares in just a couple days!
“We had an outpouring of generosity,” Risch added.
“People have already sponsored their adoption fees, and then we had a number of people call from other states to look into adoption.”
It didn’t take long for Donnie and Marie’s forever parents to arrive. And the couple even had a new friend for them: a 13-year-old Basset hound named Daisy!
Now, Donnie and Marie are in a big happy family!
Her new parents had just one thing to say when they heard the story of how the brother and sister came to be abandoned at the shelter, as Risch said:
“‘You just don’t do that,’ And we agree. You just don’t discard members of the family … for any reason.“
Please spread this around if you agree, too! 😀
