Stray Pup Hides A Mystery For Months – Shelter Workers Get A Call And Break Down In Tears

Dogs that show up at shelters don’t all have the same stories.

They’re not all abused or neglected. In fact, some of them aren’t even homeless; they’re just hopelessly lost and frightened.

Such was the case with a pup the shelter called Zooey. A stranger dropped her off one day and the staff immediately fell in love with the friendly, sociable pooch.

They also noticed that she was clean and apparently well taken care of, which meant she likely wasn’t homeless. Or if she was, she hadn’t been for long.

But where were her owners? And where had she come from? And why would anyone abandon such a likable 1-year-old boxer?

Well, they couldn’t answer these questions so the shelter quickly found a foster mom for Zooey.

After that stint was over, Zooey was shipped to a non-profit organization in Minnesota.

That’s a long 2,600 miles from where she was first found in Houston. But it’s also where the lonely dog’s life changed for the better, because the volunteers at her new home did something incredible:

They found Zooey’s family!

As it turned out, Zooey’s real name was Penelope, and her real mom – Mandy Lyons – had never given up looking for her.

And how had the shelter managed to track down Mandy?

They’d plastered Zooey’s story all over social media and Mandy had noticed! And now, Penelope was going to be reunited with her loving family.

Amazingly enough, the dog made the trip back to Houston, which meant she traveled 5,200 miles in just a few months … quite the trip for a young pup!

But it was all worth it.

Camera crews and members of Harris Country Animal Rescue were on hand to witness the happy reunion, and it was quite the scene.

At first, it was almost as if Penelope couldn’t believe what she was seeing … was that really Mandy, her owner? Had she really found her way home?

Yes! After 5 long months, she was indeed home.

Kudos to the shelter that solved the mystery of this lost pup by hitting social media hard, and double kudos to Mandy for never, ever giving up! 😀
