Like many young girls, she wanted that puppy more than anything in the world.

She dreamed of it so often, she even had a name all picked out when she finally got her little pup: Winston.

For three long years, she begged her mom to get her a “Winston.”

Whenever they saw a puppy, Tatum would point and say, “Look Mom, it’s Winston!”

But her dreams went unfulfilled for a while, so she had to content herself with dogs and pups owned by others.

This includes Tatum’s birthday. The family was eating outside when a friend wandered by carrying an adorable puppy.

The friend held a poochon (a mix between a golden doodle and a bichon frise) and the tiny pup was only a few weeks old.

Of course, Tatum immediately raced over and asked if she could hold the little fella.

The friend obliged and Tatum tenderly cradled the puppy, obviously ecstatic. But she wasn’t half as ecstatic as she was about to be…

Because Tatum’s mother then asked, “What’s his name?”

The friend immediately replied: “Winston!”

At first, Tatum thought it was just a coincidence.

But then her mother leaned over and said, “Happy Birthday,” and Tatum just froze … could those words mean what they thought she meant?

Yes!

It was hers! Mom and her friends had set the whole thing up!

“One week before her actual birthday, my good friend and her son helped us create the big surprise.

They posed as new dog owners of a sweet little poochon.”

Well, that just opened the floodgates. A deliriously happy Tatum could hardly believe it, and she broke down in tears.

You can bet on two things:

First, that Tatum will never forget this particular birthday.

And second, it’s a guarantee that Winston is going to have a wonderful life. Tatum will undoubtedly care for this pup as if he was her own child!

And that’s exactly the way it should be, right?

Maëlle Girard and her boyfriend Gilles Manzato spotted him by the side of the road in Bali, lying in the grass.

The poor little thing had obviously been abandoned and at first, they thought the innocent creature was actually dead.

But then Girard saw that it was breathing, and it was likely just trying to hide in the tall grass. Little guys like him are frequently scared, after all.

After seeing the pup was alive, the couple moved on down the road.

But they couldn’t stop thinking about him.

The poor thing had a broken leg, and locals said she’d recently been abandoned.

Hagar rushed to the area in question but at first, he could find no trace of the wayward pup.

Then a stranger approached and gave the rescuer some terrible news:

The dog, who locals had named Gaia, had been hit by a car!

Hagar raced to the scene in the hopes of reaching Gaia in time but sadly, by the time he got there, he was too late…

Poor Gaia was already gone.

It seemed like Hagar’s rescue mission had ended in failure, and he was about ready to leave when suddenly, another pedestrian approached.

This one had more news … but this wasn’t bad news at all!

Gaia had recently given birth, and her puppies had to be somewhere nearby. And that’s when Hagar knew exactly what he had to do.

He first bent over the deceased Gaia and:

“I told her I was sorry people did this.

I promised her that I would save her babies.”

The mama pup might be gone, but at least her puppies wouldn’t have to suffer the same fate!

And about a mile down the road, Hagar did in fact find those puppies: three adorable orphans!

They were hiding in an underground tunnel and one of them got scared and hid in a well.

But Hagar had made a promise and he was determined to keep it!

He worked hard to get all three pups – including the one that had wedged herself into the well – safe and sound.

And better yet, the puppies – Sydney, Matilda, and Gabriella – were all in good health, and they only needed some loving souls to give them good homes.

The good news is that each of the three babies did indeed get adopted!

In the end, Hagar kept his promise.

And though Gaia wasn’t around to see it, she’s probably smiling down on Hagar and her wonderful puppies from doggie heaven!

But when she looked closer, she instantly knew why the family had ditched this particular pup … and then her heart just broke.

Tania Cappelluti loves animals, which is why she teamed up with Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue in Costa Rica.

She has helped dozens of animals find their forever homes but when she saw that poor abandoned pup, she was especially emotional.

“This is so unbelievable,” she wrote on Facebook on August 16.

“I really don’t understand how people can do this to their dog.“

They can’t tell exactly what it is, but it’s definitely a living animal.

But what was it? And how badly was it hurt? When they found it, would it be savable?

Well, these were all questions Fernando Marie and his colleague had to ask when they started digging through the garbage, in search of the lost soul.

These two sanitation workers from Uruguay have certainly seen their fair share of weird stuff, but they weren’t prepared for what they’d find…

And they knew they had to work fast, too! As Marie told The Dodo:

He stopped for a moment because he wasn’t sure he’d heard it correctly…

But there it was again: a definite rustling of some sort, and it was very close.

So, Jonathan Flatt decided to investigate. He started poking around in the dense brush, and it didn’t take him long to stumble on a big surprise:

There was a garbage bag lying there, and it was moving!

Then Jonathan believed he heard something that sounded like the sounds of distressed animals.

He noticed the bag was tied and that something was inside and desperately trying to get out!

The boy didn’t know what was in there but he knew it was in trouble, and whatever it was, it needed his help.

So, he bent and untied the bag and lo and behold…

A litter of puppies bounced out!

Jonathan was surprised, obviously, but then he recognized the problem. As he told KRQE:

“I realized these puppies are abandoned, they’re weak and stuff so I called my Mom right away.”

His mother, Jamie Flatt, quickly ran out and found the six orphan pups, and she knew they were in immediate need of medical assistance.

“They were covered in ticks, you couldn’t even see the inside of their ears…

…they were not old enough to leave their Mom, they did not know how to drink water on their own.”

So, without a second thought, Jamie and Jonathan took these lonely puppies home.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the tiny pooches started showing signs of recovery, and they realized they had nothing to fear from the Flatt family.

And even a 13-year-old boy understands that this shouldn’t have happened; nobody should ever abandon a litter of puppies like that!

“There’s a pound right over there, they shouldn’t have just abandoned them and left them to die.”

Smart boy!

And now, thanks to him and his mother, the puppies are loving their new lives. Said Jamie:

“They’re happy, they’re alive, they’re going to have good lives, good homes, and it’s just amazing.”

One little puppy – Rosie – already has her fur-ever home, and it’s likely the other five will land loving new owners, too.

And all because a little boy heard something in the bushes one day, and he gave in to curiosity.

It also helped that he obviously has a very big heart!

A construction worker named Sebastian Bushey was on his way home from a tiring day at work, when he spotted something moving on the side of the road.

He slowed down to get a closer look … and realized with consternation that it was a puppy!

The poor pup was wandering around, obviously lost or abandoned. And in that baking heat, it probably needed help…

Though he was exhausted, Sebastian pulled over and hopped out.

He neared the puppy, who appeared friendly … but Sebastian couldn’t have predicted what would happen next!

Before he knew it, six furry creatures had shot out of the nearby bushes, and all of them were headed straight for him!

But Sebastian wasn’t frightened, and neither was the puppy.

And that’s because those furry animals were 6 more puppies!

That’s right, there were 7 puppies all told; Sebastian must’ve stumbled on a group of brothers and sisters, recently abandoned. As he said:

“I was in disbelief that I found not one, but seven puppies in the middle of nowhere, just left to die in the 105 degree heat.

“The puppies seemed very timid and nervous to come towards me because the bush was the only shade they had around them.”

Well, Sebastian couldn’t very well take them all home, but he knew he had to get the pups to safety.

So, he took them to a local animal shelter, where they received the medical attention they so desperately needed!

And the latest update is a very positive one:

“They all have been named words that mean ‘river’ since I found them next to the Grand Ronde River in Washington state.

They are doing well and will be available to be adopted on August 14 from the Lewis Clark animal shelter in Lewiston, Idaho.”

Great news!

But can you imagine stopping to help a little pup … only to find that six more are hiding nearby?

Worse, why would they do it in such extreme temperatures, knowing the poor pups probably wouldn’t live long?

These were questions RSPCA inspector Mel Fisher had to ask herself when she got a call about a bunch of abandoned pups.

She arrived to find them all huddled in a trash bin next to a van; they were all different ages and breeds.

But they weren’t acting like puppies, and for one terrible reason:

So, when Rick Hanestad surprised his 5-year-old daughter Hailey with a new puppy, she was ecstatic.

Except this “puppy” was hiding a secret: he wasn’t a puppy at all!

But how could it happen? The Hanestads live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and they’re quite accustomed to all sorts of animals, including various forms of wildlife.

You wouldn’t expect the entire family to get tricked!

The adorable furry creature certainly looked like a puppy. It was shaped the same way and did appear to have a dog’s trademark behavior and mannerisms.

However, as it started to grow, the family realized that something was definitely amiss…

And finally, they realized: Rick Hanestad hadn’t brought little Hailey a puppy.

He’d brought her a baby coyote!

Now, you might think that as soon as they discovered this startling fact, they’d immediately surrender the coyote to the proper animal rescue authorities.

After all, you can’t have a coyote as a pet!

…or can you?

Well, as it turns out, the baby coyote (who they appropriately named Wiley) got extremely attached to Hailey, and the two were just inseparable!

They played, ate, and even snuggled together, just like a normal little girl with her normal loyal pup.

Of course, there were a few unexpected hurdles to clear…

For instance, Wiley wanted all his meat cooked; he refused to eat raw meat for some reason!

Maybe he was more domesticated than anyone thought.

For the most part, though, Wiley does indeed act like many dogs; he goes for walks with the family, and he even has his own enclosure outside the home.

The family did what they could to make it resemble a natural habitat, and Wiley just loves it.

He loves his family, too!

Nowadays, Hailey and Wiley hang out like old friends, and she’s definitely the only girl she knows who has a coyote as a pet!

Just remember that in general, it’s not a good idea to try to tame a wild coyote … they do belong in the wild, the occasional rare circumstance notwithstanding.

The dog, which appeared to be homeless, definitely wanted something. But the pedestrian wasn’t sure what it was.

Maybe it was hungry? Well, yes, it appeared to be hungry, but something else was wrong…

That’s when the Samaritan realized the pooch was trying to lead him somewhere. She really wanted him to follow, and so he did.

She led him straight to a storm drain and at first, the curious pedestrian was a little confused. Why a storm drain?

Could it be her home? Did she have a toy or some food stuck in there?

Nope … when the Samaritan knelt down and peeked inside, he got quite the eyeful:

Inside, next to a bunch of trash, were several puppies!

Apparently, the dog’s pups had gotten stuck in the storm drain and couldn’t get out! Mom was obviously desperate to get them out, but she needed help.

And that’s why she had approached the concerned passerby; but now it was up to that person to save the day!

But how?

Well, he couldn’t reach the pups, so there was really only one option:

Grab a sledgehammer and go to work!

He knew that if the hole got just a little bigger, he could reach inside and extract the frightened pups, and then reunite them with their mother.

So, with the mamma dog safely out of the way, he started breaking away pieces of the storm drain … and as gently as possible, so giant pieces wouldn’t fall on the puppies!

It didn’t take long, though, and the Good Samaritan could finally make the rescue.

Nobody ever used a sledgehammer for a more noble purpose! Wouldn’t you agree?
