But unfortunately, that’s what happened to a man who decided to go biking in the mountains of Romania.

He was going along just fine until suddenly, he lost his balance and fell … and it was a nasty tumble.

The result was a broken collarbone, which is a very serious injury and doesn’t let you move much at all. And this poor guy was in the middle of nowhere!

Worse yet, the sun was setting, and the chilly Romanian night air was coming on fast. What was he going to do?

Well, he may not have expected to get hurt, but he certainly never expected help to come on four legs!

It was a stray dog, which seemed to appear as if by magic: the pup came out of the bushes and carefully approached the injured man.

Being man’s best friend, the pooch instinctively knew he had to do something … and so he did the only thing he could think of:

He quickly huddled next to the fallen biker in order to keep him warm! Later, officials remarked:

They have a poor reputation for a variety of reasons, but many of those reasons are based on myth, not fact.

In reality, the pit bull is a fiercely loyal breed, one that will absolutely make the ultimate sacrifice (if necessary) to protect his or her human owners.

Latana Chai learned this firsthand when her pit bull, Sasha, “saved everybody” one fateful day in California.

On that day, just before midnight, Sasha began barking loudly and banging at the door in Latana’s backyard.

It wasn’t like Sasha to be so vocal; the barking was so loud and ferocious, Latana knew something was amiss.

So, she ran downstairs to check on her frantic pup, and that’s when she looked up to find smoke and flames coming from her neighbor’s house!

The fire wasn’t small; it was quickly spreading and threatened to engulf nearby homes. This was why Sasha was so terrified!

But terrified or not, the dog had just one thing in mind: save his family!

He sprinted past the panicked mom and ran upstairs and Latana ran after him. She was worried because upstairs was her 7-month-old baby, Masailah…

Sasha is a big dog and if he’s out of sorts, who knows what he might do?

But when Latana ran upstairs, she found Sasha doing the most amazing thing:

The dog was gently dragging the crying baby by the diaper … Sasha was trying to save the infant!

Later, as Latana told KTXL:

“[Sasha] saved everybody.

Because if it wasn’t for her, I don’t think that any of us in this complex would have known anything.”

So much for the idea that pit bulls are aggressive, unreliable breeds!

That one incredible gesture proves just how far our four-legged friends will go to save us in times of peril, and we should all be thankful and respectful.

Bruce is a good dog and doesn’t normally act anxious, or make a lot of noise. But one cold morning, Bruce was definitely agitated for some reason.

Abby was just sitting down to watch an episode of Batman, “as most 28-year-olds do,” when her 5-year-old pet began whimpering at the door.

“Bruce sat at the front door whining and sniffing, which I thought weird and annoying, as he usually goes out back,” she wrote on Instagram.

At first, Abby thought Bruce was just having an off morning. But the anxious pooch just wouldn’t stop. Added Abby:

“He was scratching at the windows, and I was like ‘Bruce, stop, we rent this place.

He kept scratching, sniffing under the door. Then he barked, and he never barks, so I knew something was going on.”

So, she got up and let Bruce out, and the dog immediately bolted towards a small pond that sits near the house.

Obviously, he thought there was something of great importance out there, so a concerned Abby moved to follow.

What had Bruce found?

Incredibly, the dog zeroed in on a dark figure standing knee-deep in the pond; it was a half-naked and clearly confused elderly woman.

“She was standing two or three feet down, up to her knees in the water,” said Abby.

She was trembling, confused, and scared.”

The poor woman didn’t seem to know who or where she was, so Abby quickly bundled her up in a blanket and ran for help.

She called the police and an ambulance and it wasn’t long before paramedics were on the scene. The police contacted the lost woman’s family as well.

Everyone thanked Abby for what she did, but the proud dog owner knew exactly who was responsible for saving that woman:

Bruce!

“Without Bruce, I would have never known she was out there.

If I hadn’t gone out there, I don’t know what would have happened. I don’t know if she knew how to swim. She could have drowned.”

Absolutely! Dogs are incredible creatures and when the chips are down, you can always expect a four-legged friend to help!

Oh, and this story reminds us that pit bulls are often misunderstood, and can make for unbelievable pets and protectors.

A border patrol agent found this stray struggling to survive in the brutal heat of the Arizona desert near the Mexico border.

In addition to the sweltering climate, the poor Coonhound had a strange mark on his forehead.

The border agent wasn’t quite sure what it was, so he brought the dog to a shelter in Bisbee and that’s when a vet ran some X-Rays.

The results were astounding!

The mark on the dog’s head was actually a bullet hole! Amazingly enough, Lucky had survived being shot directly in the head, and the vet was just awestruck.

Said Michael Moorefield of the Arizona Animal Welfare League:

“It was a big 9mm and he had been shot between the eyes and that was the mark and it embedded itself in his jaw.”

What a terrible thing for any animal to endure!

Incredibly, though, Lucky appeared largely unaffected by the horrendous injury and after the vet removed the bullet from Lucky’s jaw, the pup was ready for adoption.

And Lucky is in plenty good spirits, too.

“It’s so unbelievable that a dog that has gone through so much has this extremely uplifting personality,” said Moorefield.

Lucky just runs right up and greets everyone he sees; that’s how friendly he is!

Here’s hoping that wherever Lucky goes, he’ll get the love and respect he so richly deserves.

What they do for their human charges is borderline miraculous, which is why they’re such special animals.

Perhaps that’s why, when a service dug unexpectedly laid down in a busy airport last Friday, everyone was quick to rush to her aid.

But what could be bothering the healthy-looking pooch? She had seemed perfectly okay until she decided she just had to stop and sit down.

Well, this 2-year-old yellow lab named Eleanor “Elle” Rigby (named after The Beatles song, of course) didn’t have anything wrong with her.

In fact, she was pregnant!

And evidently, she was a lot further along in her pregnancy than her owners realized, because it came time to deliver right in the middle of Tampa International Airport.

So, Elle lay down and immediately went into labor, prompting a flurry of activity around her.

Tampa Fire Rescue and other airport personnel were quickly on hand to help out, and we’re sure Elle was appreciative of all the good-hearted attention.

The best part? The father, a yellow lab named Nugget and another service dog, was on hand to witness the birth of his puppies!

With Nugget and literally hundreds of interested travelers looking on, the new mother ultimately gave birth to a big healthy litter.

She ended up having a total of eight puppies; seven males and one female.

And they’re all absolutely adorable, as they should be.

The only downside to this story is that the woman’s owner and her daughter missed their flight due to this happy event, and now they’ll be driving 1,000 miles from Tampa to Philadelphia.

Well, they’ve got eight new members of the family, so that’s a blessing in and of itself!

But you probably don’t expect to find a lone dog, wandering about but apparently calm and unafraid.

That’s what happened to Scott Brown and his wife, who were out with a hiking group in Teneriffe Falls in Washington State: they met a four-legged friend out in the wilderness!

As they started out, everyone noticed that a large black dog was nearby. And it kept following them as they proceeded.

In fact, the dog almost seemed to know exactly where the group was going, as he led them directly to the waterfall in question.

What was going on? Was this pooch an honorary guide of sorts?

As Brown told I Heart Dogs:

“It was funny, when he stayed with us for half mile or so, I said, ‘Well I guess he’s coming with us.’

He would sit and wait for us as we took photos and then continue on when we did.”

But everyone still wanted to know what was going on. Was the dog a stray that lived in the woods? Was he the lost pet of someone who lived nearby?

Brown finally got an idea and decided to check the ID tag, dangling from the pup’s neck. And that’s when everything became abundantly clear:

“Hi, I’m Smokey. I live nearby so please don’t take me. I like to follow hikers sometimes.

Don’t worry, I’ll go home when I get tired. My people love me a lot. Thanks for being nice!”

He really was a trail guide!

Smokey was really protective of the hiker group, too, and they loved having him along on their little trip. But when it was time to say goodbye, they wondered what would happen…

Sure, Smokey had a home somewhere close but how would he react when his new buddies left?

Oh, like any good trail guide would:

“As [Smokey] crossed the street heading home I yelled, ‘later dog!’ [and] he barked back when he reached the corner, which was so cool.”

The moral of the story is, we needn’t always be worried about dogs we find in curious places. Sometimes it’s exactly where they belong.

These two had one of those very special human/animal friendships that are inexplicable and timeless. They were inseparable.

So, you can imagine Amy’s grief when one day, she lost poor Brownie. Her beautiful shih tzu disappeared and though Amy looked high and low, Brownie was nowhere to be found.

It was just one of those freak accidents, too: the door opened one day and Brownie sprinted outside, never to be seen again.

It was such a mystery. Why would she disappear like that? How could she get out of sight so quickly? Had she met with an unfortunate accident?

But Amy couldn’t answer any of these questions because her best friend in the world was gone, and she was too devastated to wonder.

“We suffered a lot,” she told 12News. “We would look for him day and night.”

The distraught owner tried to move on. She tried to forget about Brownie but no matter how hard she tried, she could never quite put the little pooch out of her mind completely.

She asked for help with a heartfelt message:

But sadly, no dice. Nine long years passed. Then the most incredible thing happened…

Brownie was discovered sitting in a tattoo parlor, and a woman by the name of Kathy Hamel of Arizona Shih Tzu & Small Breed Rescue picked him up.

Hamel noted the old age and infirmity of the poor pup:

“He can’t even make it in my home, from one room to another, without a great deal of difficulty …  So, he could not have come from the distance of the nearest housing.

Someone had to have left him there. It’s amazing he wasn’t coyote food.”

Then Hamel realized that the elderly pup had a microchip, and it contained the owner’s information. Amy Baca!

So, with the help of Facebook, Hamel tracked down Amy and sent her a private message, which read:

“Does Brownie ring any bells?”

Amy couldn’t believe it.

“This lady asked me if I was missing a dog, and she showed me a picture of Brownie, how he looks now.

And I was like, ‘That looks like my dog.”

Yes, it was indeed Brownie and thanks to Kathy Hamel, Amy was finally reunited with her long-lost best friend, who is now 15 years old!

Amy has difficulty describing her emotions:

“I never thought I was going to ever see him ever again…it’s incredible … I’m just overwhelmed … mixed emotions… I just can’t believe it still.”

She isn’t sure how much longer Brownie will live but he’s home, where he belongs, and he will be loved until the moment he passes on.

And there’s no greater gift than that.

And really, you’re probably not coming back. Doctors can resuscitate after a few minutes, perhaps, but an hour? No, it’s time to rest in God’s hands.

However, perhaps a combination of medical science and determination, blended with divine kindness, can make miracles happen…

This story begins when a little mixed breed pup named Stupe came to South Africa’s Highveld Ridge SPCA for a routine neutering operation.

Vets perform such procedures hundreds of times and typically, everything goes off without a hitch. But not this time.

Tragically, just seconds after going under, the tiny pup went into cardiac arrest and died on the table.

His heart had stopped beating and it showed no signs of coming back. And yet, that didn’t dissuade the vigilant group of doctors tending to the patient; they refused to give up!

They continued to administer CPR for over an hour until Stupe’s heart was once again beating regularly and he was breathing on his own.

Can you believe that?

The only downside is that while Stupe was breathing, he was still in a coma, so the team had more work to do: they contacted professors at the College of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria for help.

But all anyone could really do was “wait and see,” so that’s exactly what they did. They’d done their part … would God come through in the end?

Amazingly, yes!

Just two days after his ordeal, Stupe opened his eyes, wagged his tail, and barked! The next day, he could stand on his own and needed very little assistance.

He was still a little weak but otherwise, he appeared to be in perfect health and full recovery was imminent. As the team announced on Facebook:

“This little cross bred dog was given no medication to stimulate his recovery.

His will to live and the soft caring nursing by SPCA staff brought him back.”

The staff decided to rename Stupe, too: his new name is Lazarus, in honor of being the dog who rose from the dead!

With talented and never-say-die medical professionals, and a little help from above, this adorable pup will continue on.

Here’s hoping he makes the most of his second chance in life!

Not every potential pet is perfect, of course, but some sitting in shelters pose bigger challenges than others. And sadly, few want to take a chance on such poor creatures.

That was the case with an adorable pooch named Ivor.

Ivor had been surrendered 5 times in his short life, and it wasn’t because he was disagreeable or had a bad temper. It didn’t have anything to do with how he looked, either.

No, this young Staffy was indeed beautiful but for some reason, nobody could understand why he wasn’t learning like a normal puppy.

And that’s why poor Ivor just couldn’t find a loving home. He was proving to be too much trouble … but why?

Well, as Natalie Heaton of the RSPCA discovered:

“We suspect people couldn’t cope with him or understand why he wasn’t learning like a normal puppy without realizing that he was in fact deaf.”

Yes, Ivor was almost completely deaf, which of course meant he wouldn’t be able to learn like other dogs.

This would continue to be a hurdle for the rest of his life, so the charity team decided to give Ivor a skill that would make him absolutely irresistible to the right person.

They started to teach Ivor hand signals and amazingly, Ivor turned out to be a very intelligent and attentive pup!

Better yet, it didn’t take long for someone – Ellie Bromilow – to fall in love with Ivor and his very rare ability to recognize a wide variety of hand signals.

She adopted Ivor on the spot and brought him home, then continued to work with the eager-to-learn pooch:

“He’d already learned the sign command for ‘sit’ and ‘come’ from staff at the RSPCA centre but now he knows lots more like ‘lie down’, ‘stay’, ‘all gone’ and he’s learning ‘roll over’…

When he gets the sign for ‘walkies’ he gets so excited. We keep him on a long lead and, if he’s looking, he’ll come to you when you raise one hand in the air.”

There are still challenges, of course. For example, Ellie says deaf dogs often become frustrated so they bark a lot. But Ivor’s new owner is patient and loving, and she works past this obstacle.

Besides, she revels in Ivor’s other abilities:

“Ivor also has an amazing sense of smell so we use that for games to keep him occupied.

We hide lots of treats around the house for him to find.”

Every time we turn around, our four-legged furry friends are doing something amazing to help us.

How many lives have been saved by dogs over the years?

For that, and in addition to being the most loyal companions on earth, they deserve our utmost love and respect, don’t they?

Officer Jeff Gonzalez knows this better than most, after a hectic day back in 2015 that he’ll never forget.

It was a particularly cold morning in the quiet neighborhood of Autumn Ridge, Wisconsin, and Officer Gonzalez was expecting a relatively uneventful day.

But then he saw a black Labrador pacing back and forth on the sidewalk; the animal was clearly upset and looking around for help.

The officer slowed his patrol car near the dog and the pup noticed him, and started to bark. And when Officer Gonzalez stopped and got out of the car, the dog began barking.

Obviously, something was wrong.

The cop came forward and the distressed pooch immediately took off; he wanted the officer to follow him!

Gonzalez did and the dog led him to a nearby house and there on the porch, the officer saw what was making the dog so frantic:

There was a woman slumped over a chair on her front porch, and she was just barely breathing. Said Gonzalez:

“I thought she was dead. And when I went up, she was very cold to the touch. Her lips were blue.”

But she wasn’t dead; Officer Gonzalez found a pulse and then quickly ran back to his patrol car to call for help.

The frigid temperatures weren’t doing the poor woman any favors, so he knew everyone had to act fast to get her to safety.

As they rushed to care for the severely ailing woman, they identified her: her name was Krystal Wendt. With that information, the contacted her daughter, Tianne, who raced to the hospital to see her mother.

And it was Krystal’s dog – John Boy – who had started the whole rescue operation by getting the attention of Officer Gonzalez. And John Boy was at the hospital, too!

Amazingly enough, even after having been exposed to terribly cold conditions for over an hour, Krystal regained consciousness.

Tianne was so thankful, and wasn’t at all surprised that John Boy had been her mother’s savior.

“He’s very protective of my mom,” she said.

And of course, Officer Gonzalez earned a big hug for his efforts as well, and rightfully so. Some people, even cops, wouldn’t have bothered much with a dog.

But again, dogs are man’s best friend for a reason, and Gonzalez didn’t ignore that. And because of this, he – and John Boy – saved a life that cold winter day!
