Being the founder of the animal rescue organization The Abandoned Ones (TAO), Judy Obregon had seen such sad sights many times before.

In Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth, Texas, it was a very common occurrence:

People would just leave their pets in the park and disappear; it happened so often, in fact, that Obregon started daily walks to find abandoned animals.

And here was a pet house, though there didn’t appear to be any activity inside…

Even so, Obregon knew she had to check, because there could be an abandoned creature in desperate need of help.

At the same time, it was a wooded area and it was very possible that a wild animal was waiting for her in there…

Maybe an angry raccoon!

Well, this determined rescuer just had to find out.

She cautiously pulled back the flap and gasped: there were two scared eyes peeking out from behind a pillow!

The poor thing had a broken leg, and locals said she’d recently been abandoned.

Hagar rushed to the area in question but at first, he could find no trace of the wayward pup.

Then a stranger approached and gave the rescuer some terrible news:

The dog, who locals had named Gaia, had been hit by a car!

Hagar raced to the scene in the hopes of reaching Gaia in time but sadly, by the time he got there, he was too late…

Poor Gaia was already gone.

It seemed like Hagar’s rescue mission had ended in failure, and he was about ready to leave when suddenly, another pedestrian approached.

This one had more news … but this wasn’t bad news at all!

Gaia had recently given birth, and her puppies had to be somewhere nearby. And that’s when Hagar knew exactly what he had to do.

He first bent over the deceased Gaia and:

“I told her I was sorry people did this.

I promised her that I would save her babies.”

The mama pup might be gone, but at least her puppies wouldn’t have to suffer the same fate!

And about a mile down the road, Hagar did in fact find those puppies: three adorable orphans!

They were hiding in an underground tunnel and one of them got scared and hid in a well.

But Hagar had made a promise and he was determined to keep it!

He worked hard to get all three pups – including the one that had wedged herself into the well – safe and sound.

And better yet, the puppies – Sydney, Matilda, and Gabriella – were all in good health, and they only needed some loving souls to give them good homes.

The good news is that each of the three babies did indeed get adopted!

In the end, Hagar kept his promise.

And though Gaia wasn’t around to see it, she’s probably smiling down on Hagar and her wonderful puppies from doggie heaven!

At the very least, you assume he or she is a professional and a kind-hearted individual.

But when poor starving TinTin went to the vet’s in Bali, Indonesia, he didn’t exactly get the treatment he so desperately needed…

No, he just went from one nightmare to another!

TinTin is a friendly pit bull that got sick one day, so his owner dropped him off at the vet’s … then the owner never came back.

TinTin needed all sorts of help; he had a blood parasite carried by ticks and he was obviously malnourished.

So, what did the vet do? Did he call a local shelter or rescue group? Did he try to care for the ailing creature himself?

No. He just tossed him in a kennel and treated him terribly!

He barely fed the starving TinTin and didn’t bother to treat the poor pooch’s other ailments, either.

Thankfully, the Director of the Bali Dog Adoption and Rehabilitation Centre (BARC), Ebony Owens, got a message from a local man who’d spotted TinTin wasting away at the clinic.

And Owens was just horrified:

Tania Cappelluti loves animals, which is why she teamed up with Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue in Costa Rica.

She has helped dozens of animals find their forever homes but when she saw that poor abandoned pup, she was especially emotional.

“This is so unbelievable,” she wrote on Facebook on August 16.

“I really don’t understand how people can do this to their dog.“

And can you blame them?

A German shepherd, Iris, and a pit bull, Clover, stuck by each other. They were survivors.

Locals say the poor pups had been abandoned, and both had been living in a nearby forest for weeks.

And the problem was that nobody could get close enough to help, because the frightened dogs were simply too scared. They always ran away.

But one rescuer was determined to gain the trust of both pooches.

Judy Obregon is the founder of The Abandoned Ones (TAO), and she was convinced she could get Iris and Clover to trust her.

It was going to take time, patience, and skill, though. As Obregon wrote on Facebook:

“We can’t save the world, but we can do something about the one in front of us.”

Obviously, they’re an active, kind-hearted bunch, which is why they often save lost animals wandering around their hometown of Harlan, Kentucky.

So, when they spotted a huge Great Pyrenees lying in the middle of the road, they knew they had another opportunity to help.

For some reason, this big fluffy creature just refused to move, even as oncoming traffic swerved around him!

Immediately, the Ringstaff family assumed the poor animal was hurt, and that was why he couldn’t get out of the road.

But when they stopped and approached the dog, they didn’t spot any signs of injury … really, the big pooch appeared to be just fine.

Then why wouldn’t he move?

Well, they looked around a little and discovered the heartbreaking answer…

Lying in a ditch nearby was another dog; it had clearly been hit by a passing vehicle, and it hadn’t survived the impact.

And now it was all clear:

The Great Pyrenees refused to leave his furry friend’s side!

Either he didn’t know the poor pup was gone and was staying to protect him, or he was simply mourning the loss of his pal.

Whatever the exact reason, the Ringstaffs couldn’t get the massive pup into their truck. He just wouldn’t move.

They realized they couldn’t do anything at that moment, but they resolved to return later with more help.

And that’s exactly what they did: 10 hours later, they came back with reinforcements and yes, the grieving pup was still in the road.

This time, the Ringstaffs were able to hoist the big pooch into their truck and take him home.

Unfortunately, they learned that the dog belonged to someone who’d recently moved away, and had just abandoned the poor Great Pyrenees.

They’d probably abandoned the other pup, too, the one that had perished by the side of the highway.

Well, that was just too sad a tale, so the Ringstaffs decided to care for the gigantic pooch, and called him Hachi (inspired by the 2009 movie, “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale”).

And as Melissa Ringstaff says:

“We’d found him loyally staying with his buddy who died.”

But you know, they thought that name was too sad, so they renamed him Tucker. And Melissa says it “perfectly fit the dog’s personality.”

“He’s incredibly sweet, very gentle, and we’ve yet to hear him bark.”

And Tucker probably wouldn’t be around today if it weren’t for this ambitious, animal-loving family!

But don’t you think it’s amazing just how loyal dogs are, both to humans and each other…?

He stopped for a moment because he wasn’t sure he’d heard it correctly…

But there it was again: a definite rustling of some sort, and it was very close.

So, Jonathan Flatt decided to investigate. He started poking around in the dense brush, and it didn’t take him long to stumble on a big surprise:

There was a garbage bag lying there, and it was moving!

Then Jonathan believed he heard something that sounded like the sounds of distressed animals.

He noticed the bag was tied and that something was inside and desperately trying to get out!

The boy didn’t know what was in there but he knew it was in trouble, and whatever it was, it needed his help.

So, he bent and untied the bag and lo and behold…

A litter of puppies bounced out!

Jonathan was surprised, obviously, but then he recognized the problem. As he told KRQE:

“I realized these puppies are abandoned, they’re weak and stuff so I called my Mom right away.”

His mother, Jamie Flatt, quickly ran out and found the six orphan pups, and she knew they were in immediate need of medical assistance.

“They were covered in ticks, you couldn’t even see the inside of their ears…

…they were not old enough to leave their Mom, they did not know how to drink water on their own.”

So, without a second thought, Jamie and Jonathan took these lonely puppies home.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the tiny pooches started showing signs of recovery, and they realized they had nothing to fear from the Flatt family.

And even a 13-year-old boy understands that this shouldn’t have happened; nobody should ever abandon a litter of puppies like that!

“There’s a pound right over there, they shouldn’t have just abandoned them and left them to die.”

Smart boy!

And now, thanks to him and his mother, the puppies are loving their new lives. Said Jamie:

“They’re happy, they’re alive, they’re going to have good lives, good homes, and it’s just amazing.”

One little puppy – Rosie – already has her fur-ever home, and it’s likely the other five will land loving new owners, too.

And all because a little boy heard something in the bushes one day, and he gave in to curiosity.

It also helped that he obviously has a very big heart!

…you just don’t know exactly what it is.

That was the case when a kind-hearted pedestrian spotted two dogs hanging around outside a dilapidated property.

The pups, named Sheena and Belinda, appeared to be very unhappy and quite ill.

In fact, the pedestrian noticed that both dogs were almost completely bald!

That’s when she knew she had to contact the RSPCA, and animal inspector Sara Jordan quickly made her way to the scene.

And what she found just about broke her heart.

Sheena, a German Shepherd, was supposed to have a thick coat of beautiful fur; instead, she only had some fur on her face, and that was about it.

Belinda was in a similar condition, so Sara rushed both dogs to the vet, hoping he could figure out if anything was wrong besides the hair loss.

Well, it didn’t take him long. He took one look at the poor pup’s skin and confirmed:

Both had severe flea infestations due to being hairless for so long!

Belinda and Sheena got the medical treatment they so desperately needed, while their former owner was arrested and charged with two offenses under the Animal Welfare Act.

He won’t be able to own pets for 10 years, but we think he should suffer an even worse punishment…

Anyway, as for the pups, they were also seriously malnourished and underweight, so their road to recovery was a long one.

A construction worker named Sebastian Bushey was on his way home from a tiring day at work, when he spotted something moving on the side of the road.

He slowed down to get a closer look … and realized with consternation that it was a puppy!

The poor pup was wandering around, obviously lost or abandoned. And in that baking heat, it probably needed help…

Though he was exhausted, Sebastian pulled over and hopped out.

He neared the puppy, who appeared friendly … but Sebastian couldn’t have predicted what would happen next!

Before he knew it, six furry creatures had shot out of the nearby bushes, and all of them were headed straight for him!

But Sebastian wasn’t frightened, and neither was the puppy.

And that’s because those furry animals were 6 more puppies!

That’s right, there were 7 puppies all told; Sebastian must’ve stumbled on a group of brothers and sisters, recently abandoned. As he said:

“I was in disbelief that I found not one, but seven puppies in the middle of nowhere, just left to die in the 105 degree heat.

“The puppies seemed very timid and nervous to come towards me because the bush was the only shade they had around them.”

Well, Sebastian couldn’t very well take them all home, but he knew he had to get the pups to safety.

So, he took them to a local animal shelter, where they received the medical attention they so desperately needed!

And the latest update is a very positive one:

“They all have been named words that mean ‘river’ since I found them next to the Grand Ronde River in Washington state.

They are doing well and will be available to be adopted on August 14 from the Lewis Clark animal shelter in Lewiston, Idaho.”

Great news!

But can you imagine stopping to help a little pup … only to find that six more are hiding nearby?

The 5-month-old puppy was obviously very, very sick, and she had no one to care for her. So, she was going to be put down.

But Amaani couldn’t have guessed that her savior would walk through the door, and save her life at the 11th hour…

Heather Blazina spotted Amaani at a county shelter in Jacksonville, North Carolina, and she immediately knew something was wrong.

The sad pup had lost almost all her fur, and the pit bull mix was mostly unresponsive. It was just so heartbreaking!

Heather learned Amaani was scheduled to be euthanized the following day, but she also knew the pup really was extremely sick.

Perhaps there was no saving her…

However, Heather has a background in medicine and surgery from her time with the military, and she realized Amaani COULD be helped.

She agreed to foster Amaani and immediately took her to a vet. At first, the pup didn’t respond to the medication she received.

But Heather was determined, and after repeated visits to the doctor, Amaani finally got the diagnosis that would save her life:

The pup had distemper, a serious viral disease that attacks a dog’s immune system, and it’s very often fatal.

The vet quickly started treatment for that terrible disease and thankfully, Amaani started to improve.

“July 4 was the day she started showing signs of life, and it gave us hope,” Heather said.

“Amaani means ‘hope, aspirations, wishes and desires.’ She has definitely lived up to her name.”

The only downside is that the distemper stunted Amaani’s growth. This means she won’t get much bigger.

However, the pup that was once scheduled to die in only 24 hours is once again healthy and she’s now a lively, happy pooch.

And Heather couldn’t be more impressed with Amaani’s fighting spirit:

“I’m amazed that her spirit was not shut down, considering everything that she went through,” she said.

“When she came to me, she had a 105-degree fever, so that right there tells you what she fought.

She has an amazing spirit, and to be so minimally affected by everything that she’s been through already is just phenomenal.”

Talk about being saved in the nick of time!
