Her owner, Rob Jerry, had just taken Sadie out for her morning walk, which the active pooch usually loves.

But Sadie just kept staring down the driveway, and she wouldn’t come when Jerry called.

That’s when Sadie’s owner followed his pet’s gaze … and he couldn’t believe what he saw!

From a distance, it looked like a hurt deer lying in the driveway.

“I thought that’s what she was just sitting there looking at,” Jerry said.

“And then I listened for a couple seconds and I could hear that it wasn’t a grunt it was a ‘help.’”

Then he got a little closer and realized with a shock:

It was his 89-year-old neighbor, Albert Larson!

The elderly man had fallen on his way to get the morning paper, and the fall had resulted in a broken hip.

That’s what Sadie had spotted and the instant Jerry saw the desperate man, he rushed inside to call 911.

As it turns out, Larson had been lying on the frozen driveway for some time; he’d tried to crawl back to his house, but he’d run out of energy.

Worse still, he’d become stuck to the ice! What an awful situation for an 89-year-old individual!

Well, as Jerry was inside making the life-saving phone call, Sadie held vigil by the injured neighbor’s side.

This is one loyal pooch that wasn’t about to let anything bad happen!

Sadie absolutely didn’t budge from Larson’s side while help was on the way. She was the protector!

And now, after Larson recovers from his harrowing experience, he and his wife will be able to celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary.

All thanks to one of mankind’s best friends … they just keep proving how important they are, don’t they?

Even the experts at the shelter couldn’t stop the poor little thing from crying and crying. And the kitten was in generally good health, too.

What was wrong? And how could they get the tiny tyke to settle down?

Well, maybe they just needed someone with a magic touch … and we all know that children have magic in their fingers!

Kelli Gross is an avid rescuer and foster mother who has taken in over 100 kittens, so she’s no stranger to felines in distress.

So when she heard about Ariel, she quickly drove to the shelter to pick her up. Another adorable kitten to save and foster!

She brought her 10-year-old son Zack with her, too … and it’s a good thing she did.

Because when Kelli and Zack arrived to pick up Ariel, they heard the frightened kitten crying. She was still distraught; nobody could get her to stop.

Then something amazing happened:

“…but when Zack picked her up, everything changed.

‘She was going crazy and wouldn’t settle down,” Kelli remembers.

Then Zack’s quiet voice and gentle touch convinced the little kitten that she was safe and everything was going to be alright.”

The 10-year-old boy’s magic touch was just the ticket. Ariel never made a sound after Zack picked her up, and stayed quiet the whole ride home. Said Kelli:

“He put a blanket down in his lap and bundled her up.

She was sound asleep and didn’t make a peep during the whole 30-minute car ride home.”

As it turns out, Zack’s connection with kittens extends beyond Ariel. He just seems to understand them, and they understand him.

“He has a routine of waking up and telling them good morning every day before school and then coming and kissing every single one goodnight before bed.

He makes sure that they all feel included.

He misses them when he’s away and they’re the first thing he says ‘Hi’ to when he gets home from anywhere.

He just makes it effortless and you can tell that it’s actually ingrained into his heart.”

Maybe this is all because innocence is drawn to innocence … innocent children have an innate connection to innocent animals.

They’re often considered dangerous even when they haven’t done anything wrong. After all, pitbulls are indeed large animals and they have been known to be aggressive.

That’s why Officer Travis Frost was on his guard when he responded to a call about a “dangerous” stray pit bull lounging on a resident’s front porch.

When Frost arrived and saw the gigantic pooch on the porch, he knew he had to be cautious … there was no telling how the dog might react to his presence, especially if he felt threatened.

Frost got out of his car and carefully approached the porch. He wanted to see what would happen when the hulking canine noticed him, so he whistled once…

The dog’s ears immediately pricked up but at first, he didn’t move. He just watched the approaching officer with a wary eye … then suddenly, Frost got close enough and the pitbull leaped up.

He charged right at Officer Travis at top speed and the stunned policeman was totally frozen. But before he reached for his weapon or turned and ran, he noticed something:

The huge animal rushing directly at him didn’t look mean. In fact, his tail was wagging and his tongue was out … he wasn’t rushing to hurt the officer, he was rushing up for some cuddles!

Even pit bulls need affection from humans!

But this particular pitty was so friendly that after getting some pets from Officer Frost, he quickly ran up to the patrol car. Frost had left the door open and guess what?

The sociable pit bull hopped inside as if they were going for a ride! Frost reflected on his first experience with the pit bull, who he’d later find out was named Gold:

“The unique thing about this one was the dog was so darn friendly.“

And when local animal control services arrived, they confirmed what Frost already knew: this pup, though absolutely massive, wasn’t “dangerous” at all. He was no threat to humans; he loved humans!

The next day, the staff at the Animal Care & Adoption Center in Texarkana was able to track down Gold’s owner. Before long, the runaway pooch was safe and sound at home.

Immediately following this event, officer’s interaction with the dog quickly went viral; his post about Gold had been liked on Facebook over 100,000 times and had been shared by 50,000 people!

Frost later learned that in truth, the dog in question was only a pit bull in the most general sense of the term; more specifically, Gold was a huge American bulldog.

Thing is, people look at a dog like Gold and make a lot of assumptions. They see a big block-shaped head, assume it’s a pit bull, then assume it’s dangerous.

This is the kind of thinking dog lovers are trying to eradicate, which is a big reason why Officer Frost’s post got so much attention!

He learned such dogs can be huge teddy bears, and everyone else should learn it, too!

But then he heard a knock at his back door and when he got up to open it, he got a very big surprise:

He just caught sight of a small boy running away and there, sitting just outside his door, was a cardboard box with a handwritten note attached.

The box was also making sounds, and it was obvious something was inside and desperately trying to get out!

So, the janitor knelt down and read the note, which was quite heart-wrenching in and of itself:

“Sorry it didn’t have a home, and it was cold so were going to give it to you.

Please do let it go find it a new home. Thank you.”

What had the boy left in care of the janitor? And what if the poor animal inside wasn’t very happy about being locked up in a tight, dark little space?

Well, the noises coming from the box broke the ice; he just had to open it…

And there, sitting curled up inside a blanket, was a terrified little puppy!

The boy had even left a few slices of meat for the scared pooch, and he’d poked holes in the box so the poor thing could breathe. Pretty good thinking for such a young child!

But the janitor couldn’t care for the homeless pup, so he handed it over to one of the teachers; she was happy to take the puppy home, and she and her son named him Snowflake.

They really loved Snowflake! However, they couldn’t give the dog the permanent home he needed, so the teacher contacted Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.

She hoped the organization would be able to find a loving, fur-ever home for little Snowflake. But even after all this, the tiny pup really loved her cardboard box and didn’t want to leave it!

Founder and Director of Detroit Pet Crew Dog Rescue Theresa Sumpter said:

“She really likes the box—I don’t know why.

“She likes to sit in the box, she likes to lie in the box, she likes her toys in the box.”

But little by little, Snowflake emerged from her cocoon and the team put her up for adoption … boy, they didn’t have long to wait, either!

It only took one day for someone to come forward and adopt the lovable pup!

Finally, Snowflake has her permanent home and though she had to bounce around a bit, she should lead a very happy and carefree life.

And all thanks to a little boy who, though he couldn’t care for the dog himself, knew he had to approach a grown-up if Snowflake was going to have a chance!

Of course, that’s sometimes easier said than done. When you’re facing a highly trafficked highway and one tiny, skittish creature, you’re definitely putting yourself in harm’s way.

But that didn’t stop officer Cameron Ross of the Livonia Police Department, when he got a call about a small – and absolutely petrified – kitten huddling against the concrete divider of a busy highway.

He wasn’t about to let the little guy fend for himself out there!

Officer Ross stopped the car, got out, and approached the kitten saying, “it’s okay, it’s okay.”

But kitty was just too scared and before Ross could reach him, he took off! He raced along on the side of the road, Officer Ross in hot pursuit.

Then the kitten did something extremely dangerous: he leaped onto the divider in an attempt to get away!

But that gave the officer all the time he needed, and he was able to snag the terrified little guy before he could get into more trouble.

The police department wrote about the incident online and everyone is cheering Officer Ross’ kindness and quick thinking:

“He encountered the caller on the right shoulder, who pointed out a small black ball huddled down next to the concrete divider (left shoulder). 

As you can imagine, this required strategy. Officer Ross and another officer backed their patrol cars down the shoulder to position themselves, hoping for a positive outcome.”

The officer’s body camera captured the event and that video is now getting a ton of attention online.

Even better, the kitten, whom the police officers named Libby, is safe and healthy at the Michigan Humane Society. She was treated for a respiratory infection but otherwise, she seems to be okay.

She even got a chance to wear her rescuer’s hat!

Now, Libby is available for adoption and given this video’s popularity, she’s almost guaranteed to find a warm and loving home.

And in the meantime, three cheers for Officer Ross! Not everyone would’ve gone to all that trouble just to assist a helpless little animal, you know.

Very often, they’re protectors, even when we don’t realize they’re desperately trying to keep us safe.

And while it’s certainly true that dogs are often headliners in such stories, let’s not forget out furry feline friends, who have been known to do some miraculous things for their human owners.

This is the story of one such kitty: her name is Midnight and she belongs to Roy and Bernita Rogers of Kansas City, Missouri, who have always wanted a big family.

Unfortunately, Bernita suffered through three premature births and her dream of a large family was rapidly disappearing.

In lieu of the baby she’d always wanted, Bernita decided to adopt a stray cat; he was affectionate and attentive, and Bernita named him “Midnight” for obvious reasons.

Midnight must’ve been a good luck charm, though, because not long after the cat arrived, Bernita got pregnant again.

And this time, she gave birth to a happy and healthy daughter named Stacey. Finally!

As you might expect, the adoring couple were extremely protective of their new family member and as Roy said:

“We were determined that nothing would ever happen to the baby.“

That included setting up a baby monitor to make sure little Stacey was always okay. These two parents were hell-bent on ensuring their baby’s health!

But despite all their best efforts, poor Stacey came down with a mysterious illness. The doctors weren’t too worried, though; they told Bernita that her daughter just had a cold.

So, Bernita took Stacey home and put her to bed. However, she was still worried, so she kept the baby monitor on.

And that’s precisely the moment when Midnight started acting very strangely … he’d keep jumping onto Bernita’s lap and back down again, as if he wanted something.

Then he ran upstairs to Stacey’s bedroom and started making horrible yowling noises! Bernita heard them through the baby monitor and couldn’t imagine what Midnight was up to.

“It was this screech-wail-scream-cry. It was frightening enough that I jumped out of the chair and ran upstairs.“

It was a darn good thing she did, too.

Because when she rushed into the baby’s bedroom, she found Stacey struggling and gasping for air; even her skin was turning blue!

Stacey had suffered a full respiratory failure and needed medical assistance immediately, so Bernita scooped her up and sped to the hospital, panic-stricken that she might lose a fourth child.

But thankfully, doctors were able to save little Stacey. And why?

Midnight, of course! The cat had known something was dreadfully wrong and did everything he could to alert mom and because of that, Stacey survived. Said Bernita:

“For whatever reason, we were given… a second chance by the help of a cat, to enjoy this child and watch her grow.”

Sure, Lassie is a legend but we can never forget our feline heroes!

Just ask 6-year-old Henrique Muraro.

His best friend is a lovable and extremely loyal little pup named Pipo, and their friendship is one that will endure forever. If you don’t believe that, just watch this:

Henrique is unfortunately handicapped and can’t move about easily; he needs a wheelchair to get around.

Obviously, this is very sad and hugely disappointing for a young boy, as they’re supposed to be running around outside. But Henrique’s doctor had an idea:

He suggested Henrique get a dog, which would encourage him to move around more and refine those ailing motor skills.

That’s when Pipo came into the courageous boy’s life and everything immediately got better. Said Rodrigo, Henrique’s older brother:

One day my father’s cousin brought over Pipo.

They became friends immediately and have been inseparable ever since. They spend all day together playing.“

The only time they must be separated is when Henrique goes to school. Poor Pipo must wait and wait … but when that bus pulls up, the joyful pooch races out to greet his favorite person in the world.

And it’s just the most adorable thing you’ll ever see.

Added Rodrigo:

“Pipo started doing this all on his own.

He would always follow when my mother took Henrique to the bus [to] go to school, and then one day he just started running inside the bus when he saw it arrive.

Now he does it every day.“

It’s a daily routine that both Pipo and Henrique just love, as you can clearly see in the video above. Pipo may not be a trained service dog but he’s doing wonders for his best buddy!

Rodrigo says his brother’s “motor skills have improved a lot” and of course, he’s “much happier” thanks to amazing little Pipo.

If that’s not the perfect friendship, I don’t know what is.

Some have such a dramatic impact, in fact, that one might wonder if these animals are somehow magical. They can forge special relationships with humans nobody can really explain.

Take Nashi, for example. This adorable pup narrowly avoided going to a shelter in Japan, when his owner decided she wanted to keep him.

However, when Nashi’s owner, Hiroko, brought the pup back home and told her husband they were going to keep him, there was a problem:

Her beau, Robert Hamilton, was dead-set against the idea.

But again, dogs are amazing creatures … and it wasn’t long before Robert melted. He came to love Nashi as his wife did, and they took their new family member everywhere.

It was all smooth sailing, until Robert rented a studio to work on his kimono design business. Nashi had to come, of course, but the landlord said very clearly, “No Pets Allowed.”

What were they to do? Nashi had become such a big part of their lives; they couldn’t just give him up.

Robert was nervous when the landlady confronted him and asked him straight-out if he had a dog. But he couldn’t possibly have anticipated how the conversation would go!

Sometimes, they pull of feats that nobody can explain, not even animal experts or medical professionals. And that’s precisely what makes dogs perfect companions for humans.

When you least expect it, your four-legged friend might do something that can actually save your life, so pay attention!

Case in point: Lauren Gauthier of Buffalo, New York, was confused when her coonhound dog Victoria kept sniffing at her nose.

There was a small reddish lump there and though it was a tad unsightly, Lauren wasn’t too concerned. And yet, Victoria just wouldn’t leave her alone.

Day after day, Victoria would put go nose-to-nose with her owner, sniffing at that tiny little bump.

As it turns out, the concerned dog had a very good reason for being fixated with Lauren’s nostril. And if Lauren hadn’t visited the doctor, it might’ve been too late…

As she told InsideEdition.com, it was determined that the bump was basal cell carcinoma, a type of skin cancer.

And Victoria had known!

“She’d been literally putting her nose onto my nose where the cancer was.

My dog’s persistence in smelling that area made me wonder if there was something suspicious about it.”

Lauren thinks the cancer came from using a tanning bed three times a week when she was a teenager.

And years later, it was her adorable rescued pooch that called attention to the danger lurking in her system.

“She started smelling a specific area of my nose to the extent that she would actually touch her nose to mine where the cancer is and lean back and look at me and smell it again and look at me.

It was very odd and she kept doing it repeatedly and I thought that that was a little bit unusual for her to do.”

As you might expect, Lauren is now warning teens to avoid those suntan beds, and she’s also thanking her lucky stars for Victoria. As she added later:

“Hounds have a keen sense of smell but I never thought that I would personally benefit from it!”

Lauren is getting better by the day, too, so this story certainly has a happy ending.

And you can bet that Victoria will have a loving owner forever, and one who will never forget what man’s best friend did for her!

Every time we turn around, our four-legged furry friends are doing something amazing to help us.

How many lives have been saved by dogs over the years?

For that, and in addition to being the most loyal companions on earth, they deserve our utmost love and respect, don’t they?

Officer Jeff Gonzalez knows this better than most, after a hectic day back in 2015 that he’ll never forget.

It was a particularly cold morning in the quiet neighborhood of Autumn Ridge, Wisconsin, and Officer Gonzalez was expecting a relatively uneventful day.

But then he saw a black Labrador pacing back and forth on the sidewalk; the animal was clearly upset and looking around for help.

The officer slowed his patrol car near the dog and the pup noticed him, and started to bark. And when Officer Gonzalez stopped and got out of the car, the dog began barking.

Obviously, something was wrong.

The cop came forward and the distressed pooch immediately took off; he wanted the officer to follow him!

Gonzalez did and the dog led him to a nearby house and there on the porch, the officer saw what was making the dog so frantic:

There was a woman slumped over a chair on her front porch, and she was just barely breathing. Said Gonzalez:

“I thought she was dead. And when I went up, she was very cold to the touch. Her lips were blue.”

But she wasn’t dead; Officer Gonzalez found a pulse and then quickly ran back to his patrol car to call for help.

The frigid temperatures weren’t doing the poor woman any favors, so he knew everyone had to act fast to get her to safety.

As they rushed to care for the severely ailing woman, they identified her: her name was Krystal Wendt. With that information, the contacted her daughter, Tianne, who raced to the hospital to see her mother.

And it was Krystal’s dog – John Boy – who had started the whole rescue operation by getting the attention of Officer Gonzalez. And John Boy was at the hospital, too!

Amazingly enough, even after having been exposed to terribly cold conditions for over an hour, Krystal regained consciousness.

Tianne was so thankful, and wasn’t at all surprised that John Boy had been her mother’s savior.

“He’s very protective of my mom,” she said.

And of course, Officer Gonzalez earned a big hug for his efforts as well, and rightfully so. Some people, even cops, wouldn’t have bothered much with a dog.

But again, dogs are man’s best friend for a reason, and Gonzalez didn’t ignore that. And because of this, he – and John Boy – saved a life that cold winter day!
