The Doorbell Rings, Then She Sees Mystery Teen Holding Something Up To The Security Camera…
Temptation is tough to resist when you’re holding the proverbial golden nugget right in your hands.
No one around. No one watching.
Should you do the right thing, or just walk away, pocketing the loot?
It’s a tough decision for too many people, and for a teenager the “right thing” to do might well begin with the phrase, “See ya!”
But not for one teen who set a golden example for everyone to admire and duplicate.
Tyler Opdyke, 18, was hard at work on a Friday hustling through a neighborhood distributing marketing fliers for his uncle’s pest control business.
As he walked up to a house he spotted a wad of money on the ground. Not a buck or a $5 bill, but a wad of dough, mind you – $1,500.
You’re thinking, “What would I do?” Right?
That question never crossed the lad’s mind, though.
Without hesitation, he walked right up to the front door of the house to ring the doorbell and return the money.
But there was no answer.
Unbeknownst to Opdyke, the woman inside was alone with her young children and fearful of opening the door to a stranger.
No worries. The savvy young man held the money clip up to the security camera next to the door – showing what he found – then purposely slipped the wad of cash under the front door mat.
He made sure the owners knew what he found, where he left it and that he had honorable intentions of returning what wasn’t his.
“I just really thought about what I would want someone to do if I were to drop my wallet,” Opdyke told the local television station.
“And then I thought about the house. I thought about the family who lived there.”
His concern and honesty didn’t go unnoticed by the homeowner.
“I think we all need to be reminded that there are still good people out there,” homeowner Melissa Vang told the news.
“His act of kindness cannot go unrecognized.”
She confirmed the money clip was her husband’s.
Vang wanted others to experience Opdyke’s good deed and posted the security camera images to social media where her post quickly went viral.
The teen even returned later to make sure the family had secured the money clip, according to reports.
How’s THAT for a role model teenager?
